    Hello,
First time poster to this form. I am getting into the world of homebrew and I love it. I have only participated with fellow friends on their systems (I do not have one yet). I am planning on purchasing the grainfather and a kegging system along with the miscellaneous items. My questions comes to fermenters. I'm looking at SS brewing I don't know if I should go with their brew buckets or their 7 gallon conical. I really like the idea of trub dump and the C02 pressure to kegging. I'm just looking for insight maybe first hand experience just anything to help me solidify my choice.

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the obsession.

Thaaat's a big step. I'm glad you are already rubbing elbows with fellow brewers. I think that if you're going to spend that kind of money you might want to sit in on a few more brews with your buds triple-check your homework. I encourage all new brewers to try to BUY ONCE. Don't rush a decision and try to know what you want before you buy it.

The biggest question I'd have for you, if you choose to buy a large conical, is how you plan to regulate the fermentation temperature within 1 or 2 degrees. That might help you decide which fermenter you buy.

I have a beer cellar that's temperature regulated. With enough space for the brew bucket or the conical but not both. If I want to leave in on display I would consider purchasing the temp controller for the fermenter.

I'm trying not to rush into this hobby, I'm waiting till spring to start. I am trying to do my research. I have read great things for the grainfather for an all in one electric system for the price. I am just hoping people could shed some light on the fermenters. Is the conical far more superior than the ss brew bucket?

The yeast make great beer. The only thing the Brewer can do is facilitate that. Your $1000 stainless conical can make crappy beer if the yeast are not set up for success. Or the beer you make in you ale pale can win first place at NHC. That being said, i use a http://www.brewinternational.com/mi...tic-conical/?gclid=CN-el_Dy2MkCFZODaQodhrIJ9w
I love them. If I had to go back 12 years and do it again I would seriously consider the ss brew tech conical, but would then be disappointed that I couldn't dump trub. I make a large percentage of dry hopped beers. I am setup to bubble co2 through the bottom cone. I think for $/features/longevity it's hard to beat the plastic conical.

This is very true. A guy who has won the highest awards posted some pictures of his brew day. His set up is more basic than just about anyone on here. His process is where he wins the medals.

Are you talking about the brew bucket? because I believe you can dump trub from the conical?

Yes. The brew bucket. The conical is priced out of my league. I would require 2. I could find better investment for $800-1000.

Just imagine a basic brew kettle, a cooler mashtun with a toilet braid lauter, an immersion chiller and a plastic bucket fermenter. Great beer can be made with low budget gear. Nothing wrong with buying expensive fancy gear, if you can afford it and think it's worth it.

It was on his Facebook feed. Not going to say more.

Zap-pap mash/lautering tun, ceramic coated canning kettle, and so on.
