Any signs of Festina Peche yet? Crossing my fingers I can get some for this weekend but it appears to be a long shot

I had some last year. It was very good and my girlfriend loved it. I'll definitely have to pick some up again this summer when I go down to VT and ME

Pfft. If that's the worst DFH beer you've had then consider yourself lucky. (Thank you, I'll be here all night). But seriously, I thought the stuff was solid. Probably one of my favorite DFH beers. (Different strokes for different folks I guess).

You realize the beer you're calling "horrid" because it was "extremely tart" meets the definition of its style:

"Berliner Weissbier -The taste is refreshing, tart, sour and acidic, with a lemony-citric fruit sharpness and almost no hop bitterness."

Perfectly valid to dislike a style of beer, of course, but criticizing a particular beer for having a characteristic of its style seems a bit unfair. Sort of like calling out an IPA for being "very hoppy - I don't like that in my beer".

(For the record, I found the "reworked" version of Festina Peche a poor example of a Berliner Weisse because it was too sweet and lacked the necessary tartness).

The beer was/is not a failure just because you don't like the style. It is valid to not like a beer, but it is not valid to say the beer is "horrid" just because you don't like the style.

Somebody here is earning their Troll Badge today!

Festina Peche is much less enjoyable as a Berliner now than it was in the past. Now, it just seems sweet and.... sweet for the style.

    As real as it gets!

I think there are better, regularly available Berliners on the market, but maybe not better, regularly available American Berliners. You guys with access to funky buddha and the other good Floridian Berliner makers are spoiled.

I agree. I still love this beer but the old stuff was better. Get this, I found a butt-load of Festina Peche at a local store recently that was bottled in 2008! It's still delicious!

The most "regularly available" Berliners in the Tampa area are the Seventh Sun ones which tend to be always available in their taproom. Everything else really is a special occasion. Nothing's available on the retail bottle level, at the very least.

Good to know. Prof. Fritz and the Gasthaus Berliners are probably the best ones it's easy to get, but they're both pricey. I just hope Gasthaus keeps producing the brett one -- just about the most refreshing beer I've ever encountered.

If tart beer isnt your thing, maybe you shouldnt have bought it. And further, giving it another try will most likely yield the same dissapointing result
