Hello all. I grew up in NW IN but have lived near Tampa for the last 10+ years. I'm going up for a couple days to visit family in the St John/Dyer area. In addition to 3 Floyds, are there any other breweries around that immediate area worth visiting? I won't have transportation readily available, so it needs to be fairly close. Thanks!

18th St is probably the closest but it's still 30-45mim away

18th Street in Gary like the poster above said. If you don't go to Floyds then 18th is definitely your best option.

18th Street is about 20 miles away from Floyds

Flossmoor Station isn't too far but I would definitely go to 18th Street and Miller Pizza next door to it.

There's also Crown Brewing in Crown Point, New Oberpfalz in Griffith and a brand new place in St John called St John Malt Brothers. My brother said they suck though.

Do yourself and favor and swing into The Devils Trumpet BC....their Space Caravan and My Ghetto IPA's will undoubtedly rival that of FFF (I prefer both to anything FFF has done and this is coming from someone who still swears by Permanent Funeral). I promise. Its located in Merrillville/Hobart but if you're driving to Munster then you will go right by it. Trust me on this one.

Dyer has a new brewery called Windmill BC. Not sure if its open yet but might want to check it out if so. Also, in St. John, there is St. John Malt Brothers BC that my fellow Indiana on Tap colleagues rave about.

What did you think? Small taproom but I've never been let down with their beer or conversation. I think they are severely under-the-radar in the Indiana/Chicago beer scene.

I am not sure what else is in the area, but I was disappointed in 18th Street... I would find another option near FFF next time we stop by. Atmosphere and food was fine, but the beer was not that impressive. They had an APA, DIPA, BA farmhouse ale, BA barley wine, a gose and sour farmhouse ale. Didn't excite me much.

I only had one beer while I was there because I was at 3 Floyds earlier and was just meeting someone, but what I had was good. And the guy waiting on us was super cool and actually ran into him at Dark Lord Day.

Just a few miles over the line into MI is Greenbush and Tapistry. They are only about 5 miles apart.

One Trick Pony in Lansing is 10-15 mins away from FFF and is your closest/best option hands down. Don't listen to these other wankers.

Devil's trumpet in no way rivals fff. 18th st is the only one in NWI that you can actually put on the same playing. But thier quietly control can sometimes be a problem.

18th is a much better stop than FFF. Skip the line and attitude.

If we are talking about miles, I would make the trip to Chicago. Goose Island, Revolution and Lagunitas

Windmill Brewing in Dyer is open now. Friday's and Saturdays I believe. Make a stop there, it is literally 5 minutes from FFF.

Also Saint John Malt Brothers opened in St. John, they make good beer, check them out.
