Did this ever see distro? I just saw a bunch of them on the shelf with a pretty high markup ($18.99). I thought it was a brewery only, but I could be wrong.
Bell's Oarsman is readily available and cheaper. Little difference between the two so I choose to ignore Deesko.
And this matters to someone not living in FFF distro how exactly? Quality comment. Really answers OP's question. A+/would bang again.
many of fff's random bombers do hit distro, but deesko was not one of them. also, it was good but not earth shattering. certainly not the summer wonder that new glarus berliner was...
Are there any laws keeping store owners from buying beer from a brewery (or another store) and reselling it at a markup? How do brewers feel about this act? I did have a chance to try Deesko! when it was for sale at the brewpub. It was my first Berliner, and I definitely enjoyed it, but I've since found several better examples of the style. It was worth trying at $12, but definitely not at $19.
It's illegal. If you saw it on the shelves in Illinois, it's actually a federal crime. Most brewers bristle at the idea, Three Floud's gets exceptionally pissed. I was once having lunch there and the guy sitting next to me at the bar was sharing a story about how his local shop owner sends people over to the brewery to mule back the releases and put them on the shelf. The guy telling the story was completely ignorant about this being illegal and thought it was great. The barkeep there immediately began yelling at the guy, and was really really upset. People like to bitch about how expensive their beer can get, but this is a reason why it can get so high.
Hmmm.. They were also flush with Alpha King and Gumballhead, which both seem to be nonexistent around the city. I wonder if they've been stocking up at the brewery.
