Bought some Second Fiddle at the brewery today and the can is dated 5/19/16. When did these guys move to "best by" dating? Love the beer but totally hate that move. They said it was canned yesterday so looks like they are using 6-months as their drink by date.

Really wish the 'bottled on' date was the standard. But maybe 'best by' is better than nothing. I won't buy anything without some kinda reference anymore. And 6 months is unacceptable.

Ill take a best buy date every time. When it hits a store a bottled on does nothing to get it off the shelf when its old. Counting backwards isnt hard.

Sure, if we have a consistent best by date then I guess that would be fine, but I don't think we do. The thing with Second Fiddle is that it used to have a canned on date and it never sits on shelves...

i got cans in a trade the other day with no date at all. The guy said he got it fresh and i had no reason to not believe him, but it felt odd.

    Hey Fern Believers.

A word on the past 2 Second Fiddle can releases. Quality is of the utmost importance to us, we do everything in our power to ensure that you are consuming our beer as fresh as possible. As you know we stamp our cans with the canned on date. We do this to encourage you to drink it as fresh as you can get it. However there have been two recent coding errors. On Friday, November 6th the Mobile Canning Company arrived and their coding mechanism wasn’t working. Unfortunately we had prior commitments and were forced to run cans without any printing on the bottom. Had we known the device wasn’t working ahead of time, we would not have proceeded with the canning. So if you have Second Fiddle cans that are blank on the bottom they were canned 11/6/15. On Tuesday, November 24th the wrong date, 5/19/16 was entered by the Mobile Canning Company. This is NOT a drink by date. Our IPAs are best when consumed fresh, and we strongly encourage that you drink all IPAs within the first month and a half for the best experience. We appreciate your continued support.
