Grabbed a four pack of 12oz cans of Mastermind- didn’t realize this was distributed outside the brewery/Vermont

It's been on draft for a while at local bars. At first I thought this was old news then I remembered its only Second Fiddle that's been available in cans.

Yes, lots of it on tap around Boston area. Hoping cans make it here too.

    19.2 oz, eh?

Isn't it weird they canned Second Fiddle before this?
Also isn't Second Fiddle better anyway?
I guess the reduced abv could be appealing.

His whole plan with that beer was to keep it draft only.

Personally I liked it better when it was less NEIPA-y. It's still really good but it stood out among a sea of haze a couple years ago.

Yeah, this is one beer that's reliably on draft EVERYWHERE locally (including spots like Chili's and Applebee's). Means its one of my go-to's when the pint selection is poor otherwise.

    Did they change it?

Think they had to adjust to the current situation and canned up a bunch that was originally destined for kegs. I’ve been asking them for a couple years and the answer was a consistent we want to make sure all the draft accounts are fulfilled. Hopefully they continue to can it when life returns to “normal”. Also interested in the BA Hodad. Headed to the brewery tomorrow

Fiddlehead IPA is a huge favorite of mine but wish these were 12oz 6pk or pints. Stovepipe IPA is not ideal for me.

Sidenote, I spent $18 on a fiddlehead stovepipe inside a Phish show. Part of me died inside, the other was overwhelmed by excitement that they're canning the flagship.

I heard that rumor a year ago. Glad they finally did it.

Is Second Fiddle supposed to be a double IPA version of Fiddlehead? My recollection of Second Fiddle was that it was different, a bit more malty and a bit more bitter. Regardless I guess whether its better is a matter of opinion. In general people seem to rate double IPA's higher than single IPA's though I've never (maybe rarely) really found a double IPA that actually tasted better than the single IPA version. I generally prefer single IPA's, partly because of the more reasonable ABV.

Yup. This is what’s going on. Fiddlehead IPA has been in cans for about a year now at music and sports venues..... venues that are closed now thanks to Covid19. The distributor needs to move the product so it’s been allocated to off premise accounts for the first time. Hence the “strange” format/timing of it all.

It’s prob more that there’s beer in the tank that was planned for kegs in the on-premise, and that’s no longer viable, so you can it up and send it to the off-prem. Luckily they had those cans on hand to get the beer out. Hopefully they can shift it to cans to offset losses at bars/restaurants. This is going to be a tough period for brewers large and small. Particular those who skew more towards draft than package or are dependent on own-premises sales.
