Fiddlehead Mastermind Release

I still find it amusing that people think they can identify differences in a beer they drank today and the same beer they drank 18 months ago. But that's just me.

 

Had the opportunity to run to Fiddlehead the morning before Brew-Grass Festival to grab a case. Was actually very happy I chose not to. They ended up putting the offerjng up for 4 oz pours at the festival and it was underwhelming. I've had second fiddle many times over the past two years and it's base taste was similar. Most certainly a more grassy, piney taste upfront and definitely more bittering action going on. But the main flavor of second flavor came back even on the second run through their vendor line (right after the first). All in all it's still a great beer but if you've had SF and didn't get a chance to try MM don't let the fomo get to you

 

Sort of feel bad for you if you can't! I guess everyone uses their brain storage for different things they find important or have made an impression on them at points in time. If the beer is good enough, I remember exactly what it tasted like years later, same with food. Sometimes it does inhibit one from giving a beer another go if it left a poor or uninspiring impression as some brews get better as the recipe gets fine tuned.

 

Had someone from Fiddlehead visit my store the day we were planned to have Matt do a meet and great and can release. I was told that with the brewery expansion you would see more and more Fiddlehead in Mass, probably most often on tap than in stores but more and more as time goes on.

This week CBCs are getting deliveries on different days. My store, Fenway is making it available on Saturday morning at 10:00. Other stores will receive and sell on different days, watch their social media for details.

 

Available at CBC Belmont and Winchester today. Belmont is an 8 can limit while Winchester is a 4 can limit.

Yeah, when I had Mastermind in December of 2014, it blew my mind - might have been my first Galaxy bomb of a beer. I've since had lots of fantastic beers - my first (and many subsequent) Trilliums, my first (and many subsequent) Tree Houses, my first Dinners, etc. I'm slightly concerned that I'll be disappointed in Mastermind when I drink one tonight, just because the first time having it was sort of a beer-world-changing experience for me. I'll be comparing what I'm drinking now to what I was drinking then, plus the scenario in which I was drinking it.

Framingham released at 4 today. My father was able to get the two 4 packs and said the place was dead and no one rushing in. I'd say head over if you can!

Framingham was sold out in 45 mins. Either they didn't get a lot or it wasn't that dead.

I tend to snicker at the 'this isn't the same beer' posts too, but count me in the crowd that thinks this batch is quite far away from what I remember. I had it two years ago and recall being completely blown away by intense lemon, pineapple and citrus. Like nothing I've had before or after. This batch is way more subdued, light years from what I remember. Still an excellent beer, sort of reminds me of a more melon-y Lunch, but not what I expected.

 

I'm glad someone else thought it tasted like melon. It's so lightly, fluffily carbonated, and sweeter than I remembered. Still good, still very good, just different than I remember.

 

I really wish they had bothered to Tweet out that they were sold through. I wouldn't have made the drive from Cambridge.

Belmont Tweeted they had sold through when the last one went out. I guess Westford didn't yesterday, either, but still... if you're using social media to announce you have an in-demand beer, you really should use the same social media to announce when you no longer have any.
