I got a little excited when I saw this Instagram post from Field House as I love BBA beers:

I was a little confused as the label says Barrel Aged on it yet they describe it as Bourbon & Oak Infused. I checked there website and it shows a different picture of the same label but again they use the word infused.

I asked them for clarification on there Instagram and they were quick to get back to me.

Now I know using wood chips is fairly common in home brewing but I have never had a commercial beer to my knowledge brewed this way. Does it even matter? Would there be any different in flavours? I do think it is odd they got the label wrong and even Canadianbeernews reported this beer as a BBA.

Curious what others on here think? My opinion of Field House has always been there brand is much better then there beer but I like there space and would like to see there beer catch up to there image.

Plenty of commercial beers do this. Some will say oaked, aged on oak, soaked on wood chips, infused, etc. Casks do it all the time. Some don't make it as prominent as others. There's some oaked IPAs as well. And Budweiser uses beachwood lol.

End of the day I think a lot of people end up drinking these beers thinking they are barrel aged when they are not.

You're right on saying that Field House has their branding and image-building spot on. And they did win Rookie of the Year at the BC Beer Awards. I don't really care if they use chips or an actual barrel just as long as they are honest in their labelling. And the label they use.

This is on my radar, the non oaked version is pretty good. Funny how they show a barrel though, definitely up to some marketing shenanigans. Then again, if it's tastes good I don't really care if it was in a barrel or had some wood chips thrown in. However, I do expect it to be priced accordingly too; infused should cost less than barrel aged.

I think its odd they noted it was the wrong label, however its still posted on their Instagram and website, without correction. Regardless of how the product tastes, I would expect it to be advertised and promoted correctly..
