I agree for the most part.

Since I am old...(40+), I had the same progression. I also started with Old Rasputin, Stone IRS and even old Sierra Nevada "stout" and later Narwhal. Then Ten fidy, ect....

I tend to not compare these modern Pastry/Desert Stouts with those roasty OG stouts. Just to different. Going in, I am pretty much expecting a Dutch Bros type coffee drink...lol.... to drink right away or share. Not something to age further.

Yeah, I am on that one big when it goes online. So good in cans and on draft last time.

You’re right. Pastry Stouts are somewhat of a category in their own right. I don’t expect them to age well, I only expect them to taste good. There are exemplary models of that style like MT Chaos Grid which is one of the best beers I’ve had all year. The best examples manage to get all the flavor profiles to blend harmoniously, which isn’t an easy task given the potential for clashing. Then you have those where the flavors are discordant and have a high degree of tension. For my palate, there are more of the latter than the former.

I had low expectations with this one, but it was actually pretty decent! This has a well-balanced hop bill of Galaxy and Mosiac...an easy drinking hazy with nice depth.

And of course, King Citra is fantastic! But, kind of like with the second batch of Pulp I had this year, it is lacking a little bit in the depth/smoothness department compared to the first batch of King Citra I had in Late March.

Not sure if I need to bump this to a trade forum, but if anyone wants to exchange some DDH Pulp for the finest Wisconsin has to offer, please let me know. Unfortunately I'm not traveling near any Fieldwork taprooms as often as I did for the last couple of years.

Hope the pickup window is at least a few weeks or my buddy can hook me up again, since I had to be an idiot and book work trips the first two weeks of June, on top of a memorial day weekend trip:grimacing::angry:

At least I'll hopefully be able to get some Great Notion and Reuben's when I'm in Seattle and Portland lol

Wow this batch of King Citra is killer. There was one batch some time ago that was all mangos. This time, it’s passion fruit. Need to get a growler today for sure.

Which do you prefer? The mango or passion fruit? We ended up grabbing a crowler while up there, along with Admiral Snackbar. Bringing it to the weekly Thursday sharing.

Hard to choose, but probably mango because it’s my favorite fruit, but that’s just personal preference. You can’t go wrong with this batch though.

Gotcha. Same with me, mango is also my favorite overall, so as soon as you said that, I felt a pang of regret. That being said, I don't like passion fruit as a fruit, but do love its "flavor" in beer. Same with grapefruit and similar notes.

Just opened a can of New Dreams last night. I thought it was even better out of can then on Draft. I wish I had gotten a few more.

I really liked the Galaxy and Mosaic blend on this one.

I was there last weekend both before and after the wine + fashion show. I rather liked the half glass of Danger Cake, though that was probably enough. Glad it wasn't a situation where it wasn't on tap but did have cans for sale, I may have regretted that. King Citra is super strong as always, and I got a growler of that to go which lasted until the next night. The New Dreams is so sweet - Galaxy is my fave IPA hop and this is really well done. Got a grower of that too which will go down this Saturday. Also had a Chocolate Thundergod, which I had last time also. It didn't quite have the same impact this time - super mega choco.

Cracked a can of King Citra last night. That was my first thought as well.....STRONG. Then I remembered, oh yeah.... 8.7%. Seemed a little more boozy then the previous batch. But still the passion fruit aspect comes through as noted above.

I thought it smelled like Hawaiian Tropics Christmas edition sunscreen. Then it tasted exactly like that, but mixed with Coca Cola. Got through half, then sadly drain poured....then I ate a peanut butter cup that tasted less sweet than Danger Cake.

I generally like the sweeter Stouts that don't have heavy coffee flavors, but this one is too sweet for me. I'm trying to sip it slowly, but it will take probably an hour to drink lol. They did nail the cake notes I guess.
