I think when Jay referenced Wholesome Jams, I began to expect some dankness out of Young Murks. When it failed to deliver on that, I was pretty bummed. That said, it’s still a pretty good citrus-forward dipa. It’s on the aggressive side for me right now so I’m gonna hang on to the rest of my cans for another week or two. In terms of recent releases, White Label easily surpasses Young Murks according to my tastes.

The Young Murks hype had me stopping by Berkeley at opening between appointments in SF and Oakland for a Crowler lol

Just in case it's not my cup of tea I picked up a couple of tried and true Pulp

Hmm... maybe my pallet is just wrecked but I really wasn't a huge fan of Young Murks. It seems to be less than the previous batch. This batch of Pulp was good but I feel, with Pulp, it's almost like chasing the dragon looking for it to taste like the first time I had this beer. I think Fieldwork has some... well, work to do.

This batch of Pulp was definitely a little different than the last few I've had. Not as soft of mouthfeel, and less true Citra, but it actually has a nice candied citrus flavor that I'm really digging. Still a 4.5 for me, but just in a different way.

For me the last 2 Pulp batches have been off a bit. But the batch/can release that preceded them with online sales was straight $$$. Wish there was a bit more consistency from them right now. Convenience keeps me going, hit lately a little more coin has me grabbing more ASB as they've been on fire.

Sorry CA, you don't even have my top hoppy beer for 2019 anymore. 2 week-old Yellow Rose IPA is out-Fn-standing. And I hope to be fortunate enough yet to get some fresh-hop Pallet Jack in OR next month. Come on CA, step up your hops game in 2019

I'm confused, are you saying Yellow Rose is your beer of the year? It's a fine beer and all (I gave it a 4.25), but I had two single hop Mosaic beers literally just today that were better, Turok (gave it a 4.5 at CM today), or as good, Mai Tai (gave the can a 4.25 this evening). It would be in my top 10 beers I had this week though...I think.

No, but YR is the best hoppy beer I've had in 2019 for my palate and preferences. I've had both you reference, and love Turok and enjoy Mai Tai. But they have different accentuation points. I like that there's a hint of pilsner malt showing through in YR. And maybe I personally prefer more expressed bitterness, than juice. I did love Turok: Revenge of Mosaic (and I have it rated close to YR), I don't personally feel Mai Tai is close for what I desire. These are my preferences, please feel free to have a different opinion. Me personally, YR is far better than Mai Tai. Glad you've recently had others you found superior, but that's your experience rather than mine.

If it matters, and it shouldn't because these are my preferences/experiences, all said hoppy beers lag behind Fremont's Coffee BA Dark Star, Fremont BBomb, and Treehouse I Will Not Be Afraid for me in 2019.

Just like I didn't find YM to be as much my jam as others, I did enjoy it but not nearly as much as YR. TETO

Traditional Pilsners in the Bay Area are fairly priced. See Temescal Pils or Anniversary Pils, both clocking in at $12-13 / 4-pack.

I get Cellarmaker Abel Tasman's higher price, as they use a bunch of NZ hops, so it's really more like an IPL. I tried Finer Things and that was super light. Not sure if Finest Things has tons of hops thrown in that warrants the higher price.

My wife is a fan of East Brother's Bo Pils, which is a Czech style. It's also $12-14'ish. I forget.

Almanac's Vibes Pilsner is also inexpensive, but I don't particularly like it :/

Fieldwork has been off my radar since the king galaxy release , they seem too profit motivated lately and $5 pilsner cans confirm my thoughts. They recently posted that they made nearly $15 million in 2018. Very impressive , I respect it business wise but the beer is still inconsistent.

Man they were all sold out of everything except Pulp when I checked early this morning. Who the hell loads up to the max on $5 pilsners?

Altamont put out a pretty good hopped-up pilsner recently Richard Pils at $3/can. I just don't find these more expensive local offerings to be better (or even as good as in most cases) than the much cheaper options readily available like Pivo Pils or Crisp. Certainly no chance they're worth 3x the price.

Not to side track this FW thread, but I had a Altamont Richard Pils on draft at lunch today. It was very good!

To keep it FW.... I also had a FW Orchard Street IPA at lunch. Let's just say it was a great lunch!

Where you finding Pivo these days? I'm resorting to Paso in order to even find it, let alone fresh.

That’s what I’m saying. I used to find it around LB pretty often, and even though it was usually a few months old, it was always on point and enjoyable. Now I can’t even find it in a single store. Usually end up getting the 4-packs of heater allen now, but even those are becoming less frequent. Modern Times is consistently good but not great. So I find myself trading a lot more for what I believe are the best pilsners/lagers, Suarez and Hill Farmstead.
