Did that New Sensation IPA get released? Haven't seen anything on Instagram about it since the initial post...

Had anyone tried New Sensation yet? Thinking of heading to Berkeley this afternoon to grab some cans...

Just opened a can. It has a lot going on, which depending on your tastes, is good or bad. It's dank and fruity on the nose, but the actual taste is berry and floral, with some grapefruit in the background. It finishes with a noticeable, lingering bitterness and a very slight crackery quality. Mouthfeel is pretty thick and pillow for an IPA. I like it a fair amount but will definitely be letting my other can sit for two or three weeks. The advertised pineapple and apricot character was hardly present to me.

Note: I've noticed Fieldwork's more floral beers, including this one, have a subtle, peppery spice that only becomes noticeable if you take a five minute break from drinking the beer. It's quite odd, since you don't notice it while drinking, but the feeling (and its more a feeling than a taste) is unmistakable.

Great post! I was actually able to make it to Berkeley and try it on tap and really liked it, so bought some cans. Just cracked one and I think it's one of the few times cans are even better than the draft. I am definitely getting the pineapple flavors and totally know what you are talking about with the peppery comment (which I personally enjoy).

Definitely a beer I would recommend.

Stopped in at the Fieldwork Napa location while on vacation this past weekend and had my first try at their beers and was mostly impressed.
We enjoyed Orchard st, Burning Daylight (can this one?), Pulp, and Chocolate Thunder God. Only exception was Hop n glo, which I honestly thought they poured me the wrong beer, buuuut no.

Anyways my .02 a nice brewery that deserves some props.

Would that be the "yeast bite" that I hear some Youtubers (Darwin, Jow/Joe) talk about with poorly made NE IPAs? Where it has this spicy, scratchy on the throat, harsh feeling?

I've definitely encountered this with most Alvarado hazy beers, which is a large part of why I don't like them.

Maybe. It's on the throat, like you said, but I'm not sure I'd call it harsh since it's never bothered me much. But maybe that's because I haven't noticed it while drinking a Fieldwork IPA. Weirdly, it's only become apparent when I take step back from the drink for a few minutes. So, usually once I've finished the can, and at that point my opinion on the beer is mostly shaped.

I said I was going to wait a week or so on my other can, but I wanted a drink, so I just opened it. It's funny how a beer can taste pretty different the second time trying it. I get much more pineapple like you said. Some peaches and less floral character too. I've got no idea why. Maybe it's because it's warmer out. Makes me think twice about judging a beer I've had just once. Anyways, it's probably my favorite recent Fieldwork release after Virtual Planetoid. It was absolutely great this time around.

This should be a cool event at Fieldwork Berkeley. 10/28/17.

So Green Rest came back on tap yesterday, and what do you know... Green grimy walls tapped a keg today so that's what I'm having.

Tastes similar to their August batch, which isn't doing it for me like the mind-blowing July batch. Boo.

So Friday = Fieldwork for and a few friends and I at lunch downtown now....

Started with New Sensation Double IPA. Fantastic.

Then tried the Oktoberfunk Marzen Lager. Solid.

Then hit the Green Rest IPA and the Nine Trizzay DIPA. Both good.

I had Green Rest at Belga in the City yesterday and it was way better than I remember it being. Also hazier which was strange. When I saw their Instagram post about it I was going it was a can release, but alas.. No.

My 6 New Sensation cans didn't last long (less than a week, alcoholic here!). I went to Berkeley to try it before committing to cans, which makes me a fool since Fieldwork's collabs have been on point: Alpine, Noble, Alvarado, etc. Would love to see them team up with Moonraker or Cellarmaker for an epic hazy IPA.

    What was the Fieldwork/Alvarado collab?

Also, agreed that their social media about Green Rest being back on tap showing a photo of a can was pretty lame.

The ASB collab was a peach infused IPA if I recall. I hate fruit infused beers, preferring my fruit flavors to be the products of the Hops. This was one of the only ones I've been able to enjoy.

    *Hammer Pants was the name.

mostly likely because they doubled up the last 2 weeks, but it's usually every other week. supplies getting low, ready for something new lol
