man someone definitly dropped the ball at san mateo, i got in line at 11:40 and didn’t get my cans until 130. they had plenty for the line but unnessarily slow. i told some staff about it and they said, people will wait and deal with it. ouch, not very considerate of their customers time, my wife over heard that 2 people apperently called in sick, sucked for everyone, but the guy taking orders was in good spirits atleast even being left alone to deal with the line lol

i had all the beers from the can over the weekend, i surprisingly like thermo the best, something about it i really enjoyed

super saint thomas was definitly boozy, i much prefer regular saint thomas, ego shout chamber wasn’t that great at first but it grew on me
i really liked tres commas a lot! lots of flavors, can taste the maple of good conduct and the heavy porter base. i found it strange the that the blend on the can is not what was stated in their email about the blend.

    can reads
    30% Barrel aged Imperial Porter
    30% Barrel aged Imperial Brown
15% Barrel aged Belgian Strong Dark
    15% Russian Imperial Stout
    7% Imperial Red Ale
    3% English Brown Ale

    email stated

(29.6%) - 2016 Bourbon Barrel Aged Good Conduct
(29.6%) - 2017 Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Vikings Lament
(12.8%) - 2016 Stainless Aged Good Conduct base beer
(11.2%) - 2016 Stainless Aged Vikings Lament base beer
(5.6%) - 2016 Bourbon Barrel Aged Vikings Lament
(4.0%) - 2016 Bean Machine Imperial Brown Ale
    (2.8%) - 2015 Hannah Bière de Garde
(2.8%) - 2016 Bad Conduct Imperial Brown Ale
    (1.6%) - 2015 Monsoon Double IPA

in the end tho it wasn’t better than straight up good conduct or vikings

    tl:dr

san mateo needs more staff for big releases, beers were ok to great

Decided to wait till noonish to roll up to Sacramento tap room on Sat. Line was short by then, but I got shutout on Super ST and Thermo Nuc as those had just sold out. Dudes were carrying out cases as I walked up Capital Ave....lol..

I did get a couple Ego Shout IPA and the 1 can of Tres Commas. Enjoyed both over the weekend. Tres C was interesting for sure. I really got the chocolate. Not as hot as I thought it would be. Not as much barrel since it was blended? Then trying to pick out the other flavors as it warmed. Raisins? plums?

Also had friends who were there earlier hook me up with the other 2 DIPA cans, but I haven't tried them yet.

Tap room was very crowded still, so we left to get pours and food elsewhere. Hit Capital Hop shop a few blocks away on 15th and I st. Got FW Destroyer of Galaxies. Also a few other tasters from New Glory, Bottle Logic and Epic.

A friend sent me a picture of the line at Berkeley at about 12:30PM. Making the decision not to head to FW was easy after seeing that picture.

I did go to the Berkeley tap room at 9PM that night to meet up with a few friends. I knew there were going to be no cans left but man was it awesome to walk right up to the bar and taste/get pours of everything they released in cans that day. My favorite was Thermo too, followed by SST, Ego, and Sticky. Didn't try the Tres.

Looks like almost everyone else recognizes the booziness that came with this year's SST. I had a friend pick up some of everything for me and this nice lass brought a friend so I got 2 cans of Tres. This is the Sacramento location - she said people were asking others in line if they were buying the Tres, and if not, were offering money on top of retail to buy for them. I think I might hold on to these for a bit, the early reviews seem to indicate it may need to age for a bit - would like to hear from people who have opened theirs.

I think Tres should develop some nice dark fruit notes in time. I'll drink my next can in a few months.

Agree with everyone above on the disaster that San Mateo turned into. Hope it really was just people calling in sick, and not the new normal. Also agree that SST is not up to par with last years. Last years SST was my favorite Fieldwork IPA ever, and this years had me questioning my life choices after over 90 minutes in line :-) Tres Commas was mediocre. Wish they had just canned all that Vikings Lament that went into the blend.

King Citra definitely cheered me up, but still bummed about SST

I just wish Fieldwork would do an adjunct-free bourbon barrel imperial stout. Based on the number of different beers that went into the final blend of Tres, it gave me the impression that it was a beer made from leftovers--kind of like a stew or something. I still think Tres has the potential to get better with some age on it, but in general, I don't have a lot of confidence in their dark beer-making abilities.

With Vikings Lament, Eliza, Good Conduct, Bad Conduct, Bean Machine and Cocoanut....... I will still go in on their Dark beers to try. I usually don't max on allotment though.

That is a pretty solid run. Not for everyone though as there have been misses.

They’re worth trying, that’s true, but I don’t necessarily feel compelled to continue getting them either. In the case of BA Eliza, there was something interesting with the interplay between barrel aging and adjuncts when it was fresh, but became a bit of a mess over time. Both Good and Bad Conduct were a bit too syrupy for me. Cocoanut was pleasant from what I remember so I wouldn’t mind revisiting again. All of them are pretty heavy on the adjuncts, though.

Count me in the never liked any dark beer from Fieldwork camp. That includes Hot Chocolate, Chocolate Milk, White Mocha (does that count?), Imperial Hot Chocolate, BA Eliza. I just don't think it's their forte.

anyone remember the French toast imperial porter? I loved that! It was certainly in adjunct heaven/hell. I also really liked Night Moves.

Yet another example that your palate and preferences are polar opposite of mine. Chocolate Milk on nitro is a must grab every time I find it. And Bean Machine is my favorite beer from them for my tastes.

haven't had many of their stouts but I love imperial hot chocolate. Wish they'd make a nitro can of that.

Bean Machine and Dairy Busey are awesome! Can't really comment on the BA stuff because... I'm not a fan of BA beers.

Not mentioned yet on the main account, but here's a 4/20 release announced.

I guess that means Nug Champa will be on 4/20 also, rather than before?

I don’t recall having had Sour Diesel before but I had Nug Champa last year and was disappointed. I was expecting full on dankness, but it didn’t taste that much different from their other moderately bitter west coast IPAs. I remember getting more grapefruit than resin.
