Depends on how much they produce of each beer as well. Strawberry Parfait was gone in 45 minutes. There were still huge stacks of both IPAs they released at the same time. They do crowlers as well if you miss out on cans

So, I had Rainbow Parfait last time I was in Sac, and even took home a crowler. But I'm not quite sure why these beers are this popular, especially when Alvarado's kettle sours are significantly better. Is it just novelty? Somebody please enlighten me.

It varies. There’s no way the Parfait will, but if there are a lot of releases something may.

The San Mateo Instagram suggests that they will release things at 11am Saturday

I thought the Strawberry Parfait was the worst one. Other than Haole Punch i think ASB's Kettle Sours are pretty lackluster and they very rarely use Lactose which makes the Parfait Series unique and similar to JREAMs.

I wish more Bay Area breweries would try and make some smoothie beers ala The Answer Popsicles and Smoothies and the Bruery Bruesicles.

IMO... as far as kettle sours go...

    • Alvarado ones are the most vomit-like...
    • Fieldwork Parfait series are very desserty, due to the lactose (and not so much tart/vomit)
    • Fieldwork non-parfait aren't really my pint of beer.
    • Mraz ones are pretty tart, yet tasty. Probably my fav I've had.
    • Barebottle ones are medium tartness level, yet still pretty well balanced to my palate.

I've never drunk an Alvarado sour that tastes like vomit. Goes to show that palates are different . . .

I will say that the 3 beers they brought down to MT's festival of funk were borderline undrinkable. I am a big fan of Haole Punch and double Haole Punch...but the triple they brought.....it was ridiculously tough to drink that 2oz pour.

    Ok, but . . . vomit?

@JayORear I didn't mean to single our ASB in particular, even though I'm not a fan but... to my palate, actually Kettle Sours in general elicit "vomit" notes to me

I get a strong vomit smell from a lot of sours. I think mostly peach ones, maybe apricot too. But they usually don't taste like vomit. But the smell can be super off putting. I don't think I've gotten it from any ASB, though, but really, the Haole Punch series are the only ones that stand out in my memory. I actually loved the triple version.

The single is pretty meh, IMO, and the double seemed super boozy while the triple was super easy to drink. Didn't have it at the FoF, though, got it at Tiger Tiger a couple months ago..

I just don't think I'd ever drink something that smelled or tasted like vomit.

The same thing could be said for me and stinky cheese, feet, wet horse blanket.....but put down a bottle of 3F and I'm all over it.

Truly, Madly, Dankly was a very good West coast IPA.

But this Sauvige Garden is dank delicious goodness. Soft mouthfeel, amazing dank aroma, light bitterness, medium carbonation, and great hoppy flavors. In my top 10 of 2018 releases for sure.

Not sure if I'll get to Loser's Club 2 tonight.

i agree with your assessment of sauvige. They hit this one out of the park. Only got two cans but need to go back for some growler fills now. Funny how one of the best releases of 2018 is named after a hella cheesy pop group.

I'm truly, madly, deeply in like with these new releases. Had all of them last night and they were all really good. I can't remember the last time when everything they released exceeded expectations, but this time was surely one of them, at least for IPAs. Since there was a long line at yesterday's release, I didn't ask for splashes beforehand so I couldn't assess the outcomes. In hindsight, I wish I did.

Thanks for the recommendations on when to go, everyone. Ended up getting four of everything at San Mateo, and also got one of the last pours of Rainbow. The Parfait series is fun, but I can't think of it as a beer. Too sugary and, off draft, not enough carbonation to keep the beer tastes...uhh...effervescing. It ends up being a syrupy kind of sugar. Not to say it wasn't good though, I blasted through our pours.

Ended up with 8 Parfaits, and 5 of everything else, with what the SO got. I love the release method they used, being a Monkish boy. We still ended up getting there 45 minutes early (had to drive from Pleasanton/Dublin and had plans the rest of the day that facilitated us leaving that early) and then returned there after dinner to try Sauvige and Truly. I preferred Truly Madly Dankly, but that might have been because I had that prior to Sauvige. Loser's already tapped by the time we got there.
