    HI all,
Just counting the time until I can keg my new brew. I've seen a bunch of talk about filtering using two kegs with an inline filter between them. Being as how I will be doing a 100% sealed transfer from conical to keg, I was curious if anyone had tried just putting a filter between conical and keg. I don't think it should be an issue, but want to see if anyone has done this and any issues involved.

Inline filters keg to keg are more trouble than they are worth, in my limited experience using them. I imagine I'd feel similarly for conical to keg. Filtration is not necessary on the homebrew level.

I'm surprised you're seen a bunch of talk about filtering between two kegs. I think it's pretty unusual. AFAIK I don't know any homebrewers who do this. Have you ben having problems with clarity?

To answer your question...I think you should be able to filter during a pressurized transfer from conical to keg, as long as the pressure needed to push through the filter doesn't exceed the pressure rating of your conical. I have not done this myself, but I have done pressurized xfers without filtering.

Filtering homebrew is generally not needed. It can be done and it is not really all that complicated but most homebrewers are able to serve very bright beer with simple methods that do not involve filters or transfers. Filters do indeed have draw backs. It is not a 100% solution, not even close really. We are not trying to sell this stuff to market after all. We have total control over presentation.

You might want to read about clarifying agents, gelatin in particular.
    Cheers.
