bought a new house, and it includes a bar room complete with a fully set-up bar and a kegerator. haven't officially moved in but I did ask the owner of the house (or former owner!) a few questions. he said that the kegerator is set-up for home brew (pepsi soda kegs, specifically). since I do not currently homebrew, I was wondering what I need to do to convert the system to sanke kegs? is it as simple as being a sanke online and using a wrench to disassemble the sodakeg attachment and reattach the sanke to the line?

You will need at sanke coupler, and a tail piece, a washer, and a wing nut if it doesn't come with it. The tail piece needs to fit the line, which hopefully will be 3/16ths. You will need a hose clamp for that connection as well. For the CO2 you will need a tail piece, a nut and a duckbill washer. Again the tail piece needs to be for the size line you have.

easiest thing to do is go to a homebrew store and tell them whatcha got. Great advice above, at the store they can hand you what you need and tell you the best way to fix. You can decide not to buy there (usually 10% mark up than a Menards/Home Depot etc) and away you go.

If you buy beer line it needs to be specifically beer line or food grade. Bulk line at a home improvement store will not work. I was short one hose clamp - they are cheap you might as well put one on the gas line too.

Why does it need to be food grade? I ordered a line from kegworks, but the internal diameter was too small to fit the quick disconnect nipple. I went to HD and found a line that fits. Won't that work, or am I gonna be screwed when I go to tap it this weekend?

Because food grade will not leach chemicals into you beer. Bulk grade is not designed or formulated for food, you will not only have vinyl tasting beer you might be ingesting the chemicals.
