It's pretty out of the way for someone to drive out to Media just to check out a beer garden, regardless of where in VA they're coming from. What an odd suggestion.

Maybe calling it the Beer Garden (actually Beer Garden To Go; http://pinbeer.com) is a bit misleading but that was not my call.

I just thought that a place that carries [per their website] '1000 specialty beers' from '200 craft and international breweries' (including Russian River which the OP was interested in), along with 25 taps for growler fills, and is rated '98 World Class' by Beer Advocate might be worth a few minutes detour off of I-95, which would seem a fairly logical route from parts of Virginia, assuming one is driving as noted in my suggestion, to Philadelphia and back.

Anytime I'm that close to the place, I'm stopping in. But, maybe, that's just me.

Went there last June for the first time. Loved it, different than most craft beer bars. Surprised how small it was.

Everything available there and a lot more is easily obtainable a short walk from where the OP is staying, is all. If he wasn't going to Center City it would make sense to stop there.

You may want to check out the Local 44 bottle shop in West Philly (44th and Spruce) for RR sours if you have time. Call before you venture out. I have picked up Consecration, Temptation, etc. there a couple times. The Local 44 bar next to it has a good tap list too.

Monks tap menu and bottle menu can be outdated. Just call ahead before visiting. My wife and I made the mistake of assuming they would have a good selection of Russian River things when we visited a few months back because of their online menu. It is a cool place when they have the beers you are looking for. Have fun!

Well I went to Monk's (twice in two days) and loved it. No Blind Pig/Consecration/Supplication, but I did manage to down five Plinys between the two days. I need to educate myself on Belgian beers before I go back, because unfortunately most of my knowledge/appreciation is confined to American breweries and beer.

Monk's had either Consecration or Supplication in bottles (can't remember which), but they wouldn't sell RR bottles to go. I also checked Food & Friends but they were out of stock, at which point I headed back to the hotel since it was getting late. I will have to go back soon; a couple of my friends and I have been discussing a road trip for a while now.

Final note on Monk's...their wings were great. Rest of the menu looked good too.

I was at Bru yesterday, and saw that they had bottles of Consecration and Temptation. They charge high prices, but if you ask nicely they will let you buy a bottle to go.
