Finches Brewery yes or no?

This pretty much sums up my feeling on Finch. Par to sub-par beers. Their one shinning light is secret stache, which is just above average.

 

I don't mind many of these beers. Not the best I've had by a longshot, but many of them are solid. However, I'm extremely turned off by their social media strategy. Quoting every single mention, linking their BA/RB scores, retweeting untappd checkins, and basically being a non-stop promotion robot. Engage your community and use social media to actually talk to your customers and the local beer community.

 

Finch's Beer Company was started by Ben Finch. Apparently/supposedly Ben Finch is some sort of marketing guru. From what I can tell, Mr Finch sees that the craft beer market is growing exponentially and he decides he wants a piece of the action. So he goes out and hires a brewer to make his beer. And Presto! he has a beer company. A beer company whose goal isn't to make good beer, but rather, good-enough beer. Beer that will sell.

My personal take on Finch's is that they are poachers. They exist only to sell a product and do so off craft beer's goodwill. I don't like their beers and I don't like them as a company. They are not beer advocates. They are not in the market for the love of beer. They are nothing more than a production company that happens to sell beer as its product.

i've bough a few of their beers when they showed up in Chicago (last year some time if i remember right?) and suffered through one before i drain poured the rest

 

I supposedly won a "tour" of their facility on Twitter but they never contacted me. I haven't bought any of their beer since. I liked the Blonde but wasn't a fan of their pale ale.

That escalated quickly.

 

The three beers I have had from Finch's (their IPA, pale ale and golden ale) are OK, but with much better local options for the same price I don't see any reason to keep buying them. I hear positive things about their Secret Stache Stout, but I read that it was brewed with lactose and since I'm lactose intolerant, I'm not getting anywhere near that beer.

 

unless you need to shart yourself out of unsavory company.
