Hello, My wife's in Austin for business at the beginning of next week (the 26th), but sadly this will not overlap with Jester King being open. Is there anywhere that you'd recommend stopping at to find Jester King bottles (that aren't just Mad Meg or Das Wunderkind, since we get these in Philadelphia) - I realize many releases are brewery only, but perhaps stuff like Dicht. or Provenance? Don't want to send her on a wild goose chase but she's willing to go to 2 or 3 places for sure. Good recs for where to find barrel aged Prairie stuff always appreciated too. Thanks so much!
South Lamar Wine & Spirits had Dichotomous, Noble King, Wythchmaker and the two you mentioned according to a facebook post yesterday. Oltorfs food mart posted Dichotomous in stock about 20 minutes ago. Good luck.
On the East Side, she could try MLK Food Store, East 1st Grocery, or Quickie Pickie for JK or Prairie. Also, I don't know if there's truth to this, but I've seen posted here in the past that sometimes JK will let out-of-towners who won't be around on the weekend come by if they call or email ahead. Who knows if that will work, but it might be worth a shot.
Whole Foods is a good bet. The Arbor Trails location had some Wunderkind and Biere De Miel sitting on the shelves earlier. Not too far from the airport.
If they say no, I was considering asking one of you fine folks to take an order there for us over the weekend for $+tip, to be collected on Monday, but that seems like a lot to ask. E-mail sent, we shall see. Thanks so much for all the suggestions though - we're not out for whales or anything, just good JK stuff (which is everything pretty much in my experience) to tide us over until the next Austin visit.
I second the Prairie Okie suggestion. It seems criminally underrated IMO, though it might just be the sticker shock and the words "brown ale" instead of "stout" that are keeping people from picking it up. I thought it was pretty incredible. Normally the Prairie BA stuff moves very quickly, though Bomb sits on shelves sometimes at this point. I'm not sure how much Okie would be at the bottle shops already mentioned, but one of my local HEBs has a case just sitting out and it's been sitting there for weeks now. It's a bit north though, so not necessarily close to where she'll be. Good luck on the JK stuff.
I hate Prairie's prices man....they have really good beers, but I get tired of paying 8 bucks for Bomb! It adds up lol. Espcially when its a 12oz...now if it was the 16oz bottles they have like Gold, then it would be well worth it. and I second the "brown ale" part.
JK was extremely nice and is letting her come by on an off day for the tasting room. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
