Hoping to grab a pint of NoDa Hop, Drop & Roll at the Charlotte airport tomorrow on the way out of town. I scoped out some of the places on the airport website. Is the Carolina Beer Company my best bet? Whisky River? Or should I be lowering my expectations and just be happy to find some other local stuff like Olde Mecklenburg?

I would imagine it's in multiple places at the Airport, either in cans or on draft. It's EVERYWHERE in Charlotte. Set the bar pretty low for it or you'll be disappointed, it was only good for a couple months 5 years ago.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear I will likely find it. Is it no longer good because the changed the recipe? Was there a quality drop off? Or does it not taste as good because it is so available?

I fly through Charlotte a few time each year for work and always make a pit stop by Carolina Beer Co. since when I fly American my arriving flight usually lands in Terminal E so CBC is the next terminal over. They have a nice local selection and have always had Hop Drop available. I would also agree with @WesHowl as well. When I first had it several years ago it was awesome but since it it seems to go down hill each time after I have had it. Now I'm not sure if that is because I have tried other really nice beers between then or they have tweaked the recipe a bit over the years. But to someone who has not tried it before maybe you will be blown away....

You may also want to try Taste of Carolina in Terminal B if you want some other local stuff not at CBC. I have learned that you can easily find local beers in the airport but if you are looking for something specific from a brewery then try a couple spots. For example, Carolina Beer Company usually has NoDa - Hop Drop but it was not on tap at Taste of Carolina. They did have Coco Loco from NoDa available while CBC did not. Make sense? The local breweries or distributors are smart with getting in several of their offerings around the airport but not loading them up at just 1-2 single places. They spread the variety to several of the restaurants and eateries.

The general consensus is that the recipe changed after they won gold back in 2012. Honestly, it's probably a combination of that, NoDa scaling up/cutting costs, and changing tastes (especially with IPA style preference) amongst people who frequent this site. If you've never had it before it's worth trying once, but I think there are other Charlotte breweries (some that probably have taps at the airport) doing IPAs (and pretty much every other style of beer) much better than NoDa.

I've seen cans at a number of places as well. The area with the sushi and pinkberry in terminal E pretty much always has cans and the couple times I've looked they've been super fresh (as in less than a week old in some cases).

I saw a place in E selling cans and bottles to go, but I did not see NoDa Hop, Drop & Roll. I did get to have it at Carolina Beer Company. Other than wanting a bit more hop aroma, I was very happy with it. I did try asking for a can to go, but as I had anticipated, that wasn't legal. I'm sure I will have another chance at it as I travel on occasion.

You can get beer to go at the 1897 market, including hop drop and other locals. It's expensive AF, but you can do it. Its on the shelf and you buy it just like water and chips.
