I bought an old Rochefort 10 that was down right nasty and it's hard to buy again. I am reluctant to buy any old beer, unless I get it at a discount.

So, how much of their Old Chub have you had? It's my winter-time go-to beer. I truly love it.

My friend found some 2 yr old orvals. I now have 3. Orval I would definitely do it, but when I see a year old double trouble I steer clear and weep a little on the inside.

I saw a bunch of 2009 Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere Wet Hop Ale at a store the other day.

They also had some really old belgians and a barleywine from Flying Dog...might go back and see if I can get anything that might be good aged. I won't be getting those 3 year old IPAs though.

Haven't tried Old Chub yet, but I just had their Gubna on tap and it was great.

I had a year-old Double Trouble not too long ago. What a palette shock.

If it is a higher ABV beer, I have no problems buying it provided its discounted. Ive had some good surprises buying some old beers

Many do age KBS, but I don't know anyone myself that will argue that it gets better. My point was that it is still GOOD, but better FRESH. Many of us, myself included, seem to love vertical tastings. We are guilty of aging beer past its prime, sometimes waaaaaaay past its prime, so that we can sample it next to the years to come. Aging a beer that is also that popular does also give one trade bait..as people who want full verticals later on will trade handsomely for it. I'd love to know if people have other reasons behind aging beers that seem to be best fresh, as this is the only one I could think of at the moment.

That's exactly my experience. INMnotsohumbleO there's too much geekery with the supposed mysticism of aging beer. Not a trend which needs any more stoking.

I am too impatient to age my beers. Like the stone vertical epic series. I always buy 3 just in case. But I always get itchy fingers and open them up. Or the Mephistopheles stout I opened that up too, and a few people told me to cellar that beeYotch for three years! But I did try one after aging it for about two years, well almost and the soy sauce like taste dissipated a little :grinning:

I recently bought 2 of the 2006 Budweiser Brew Masters Reserve beers. I knew I would never see them again if I didn't.

just recently had a 2001 world wide stout. pretty unbelievable. we did a flight of them from 2001 to 2009 (with the exception of 2002). you could really tell the difference with the older ones. the '01 in particular was amazing.

I found a stash of Pannepot 2007 and bought several bottles to trade...nobody was interested in them so I decided to drink one...best decision I ever made...Needless to say, I went back and bought the rest of the bottles...

    Cheers!

I work in a store where unfortunately sometimes stock is dumped if we cant sell it, and we can't get a buy back from the distributor. In the process of dumping I take a swig of just about everything from 6 year old 20 dollar rieslings, old rose 4 year old freaktoberfest -Gross-, beers that just didn't sell either because that beer wasn't very good to begin with or the distro didn't get the product to us in time, or it just got buried. We're still sitting on 6 or 7 cases of breakfast stout.

Sometimes its sad to see things you know are great fresh go down the drain, but you'll always have that one last sip right before that big foamy flush that takes all the stale beer and corked wines to the great beyond. Good or bad I usually enjoy the experience.

But as far as buying beer unfortunately there isn't much vintage stock in stores in this area. I'm almost always on the look out for something thats cool and old I'll give most anything old a shot for a discount...or mark up sometimes if I want it bad enough. Picked up a few 1 year old bottles of Czar. Dont know much about it but hopefully it works out.

Only 15 bucks for 3 22oz + High ABV + A Brewery that has impressed me in the past + Never had it/Had it Liked it + being months away from having a 2 year vertical, normally = SOLD .

Total wine normally has things sitting in over head that store managers are normally completely oblivious to (year old Perpetual from Troegs.) I rely on good friend/employee at one location he is astute, always on the look out, and down to try new crazy stuff.

Just got back in town, needed a beer when I hit the home.

I chilled a bottle of the 2009 Terrapin WnB... Looking at the bottle, it appears they weren't even brewing or bottling this in Athen, GA where they are now. Someone else in SC was doing it for them. Makes me realize how old it is.

However, I opened and poured into my awesome goblet.

Great head and great looking beer. Smell is fantastic, like a fresh and smooth coffee. The coffee hasn't gone anywhere, I'll say that much. Bit creamier, still that bitter dark coffee flavor, but man it's really awesome and smooth. Alcohol seems gone though.

Impressed. I got a good deal, and got a 3 year old stout that taste fantastic.
