I used to trade for it on the regular (but am getting out of trading). If I come across any though, I'll surely send some your way! Us chicks need to look out for each other

I don't really understand this logic. Trading isn't expensive but even if it was, you'd rather someone else incur that cost in order to try it at a bottle share?

Some tasting groups are cool with this. They realize that folks have different monetary constraints but still share the same passion. They're alright with spreading the joy at their own expense.
It's called being a beer advocate.

It's not? Next time I ship a case of Cascade to a friend in Pittsburgh, you can pay for the shipping then. I have my own resusable shipping boxes that I use, but if you don't happen to belong to a wine club or two, then buying a shipper and sending a case of beer across country can run you close to $100. For some folks, that qualifies as expensive (in the case of Cascade, it tacks on an additional $7 or $8 a bottle for a beer that is already pretty expensive). If that's not the case for you, congratulations, but for many people, that would be considered a pretty expensive little hobby, especially if you're making trades like this every couple of months.

Your other comment I just don't understand. I've gotten to try a lot of amazing, cool stuff via bottle shares... you think I shoud feel guilty or predatory over that? By the same token, I also try to bring a lot of great stuff (last event I attended, I brought a bottle of king henry and darkness 2011), so it's not as if I'm not giving value for value (at least to the extent I can). In the case of the OP, she wants to try some 3 Floyds some day. Who knows if she'll even like anything by them, but I can certainly understand her wanting to at least try some of their stuff at some point. Maybe if she really digs it, she'll then arrange a trade, or maybe she'll drive out to Munster and bring back a dozen cases of zombie dust. However, in the interim, trying a few different beers by them first at a bottle share seems to make a lot of sense.

Personally, I think it's really cool when I happen to bring something that is high up on someone's "wants" list. In my experience, that's how most people at bottle shares react, and as jmw pointed out, most folks are well aware that we all have different monetary capabiliities. So that's never an issue. Besides, why do you think folks even want to go to bottle shares, if it isn't to show off what they have, and to sample everyone else's "rare treats" as well.

I confess I really have no idea where you're coming from on this mark14580.

Same here. This is what I think he thought though: "Oh, he's just recommending this person be a leech at a bottle share instead of trading."

My point exactly was your second paragraph. Bottle shares are a great way to experience many beers. This way, you don't have to commit to a trade and then maybe if Zombie Dust does blow your mind, you do end up trading for it.

I was just recommending ways to try ZD. Trading first and foremost. Maybe a bottle share if one pops up in your area. These are just two of the most incredible things about craft beer. Interacting with people, making live/trade friends, etc.

Man that was a long response.

Trading for a six pack of 3 Floyd's would cost between $8-$10 from Indiana/Ohioto NJ. No reason to bring up shipping cascade across the country.

No reason to infer anything else from my post. You've already spent too much time contemplating it. If the OP wants to try some three Floyd's she can easily trade for it.

Then let me brief (since it's clear that you find reading my post a bit challenging).

You're the one who brought up how cheap it is to ship, not me. I brought up the cost of shipping a case of Cascade as an example of how/why that's not always true (but I gather my example was lost on you).

"You've already spent too much time contemplating it"

I appreciate your concern, but as it's mine to spend, how about if we let me be the judge of that, hmmm?

"If the OP wants to try some three Floyd's she can easily trade for it."

Yep, she can. Be kind of bummer though wouldn't it, if it turned out she traded for a beer she didn't like. That's why I suggested trying some first at a bottle share (of course I pointed all that out at great length in my previous post, but I gather that post was so long, you might not have gotten around to reading it all.)

Exactly. I actually thought this was all fairly obvious, but apparently not. Oh well...

Your offer stand more broadly? Have been looking for some. Let me know, willing to share some other FFF I have or other things.

Sure. Timmush and I get together occasionally for cold ones, perhaps we could arrange something.
