Okay, I'm on another one of my themed beer kicks. This time out, I'm looking for everyone's favorite strong ales. Whether it's a Russian Imperial Stout, or a barleywine, or and Imperial IPA. I want to know what your favorites are and why you love them.

Your guys' recent posts turned me on to Peche Mortel and I'm hoping to have my eyes opened yet again by my fellow beer advocates.

Avery Mephistopheles is an awesome stout, it just needs to have a little age on it.

    Firestone Parabola (imperial stout)
    Firestone Sucaba (barelywine)
    Bell's Expedition (imperial stout)
    Dogfish 120 Min IPA
Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast Weasel Cognac edition (stout aged in cognac barrels)
Sam Smith Yorkshire Stingo (classified as English Strong Ale)
Lost Abbey Deliverance (blend of Serpent Stout aged in bourbon barrels and Angel's Share aged in brandy barrels)
Lost Abbey Serpent Stout (imperial stout)
Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break (imperial stout)
Evil Twin Soft Dookie (Soft DK in the US, imperial stout)

Anything Kuhnhenn. The Vintage Ale in particular hides its strength really well, and manages to stay relatively dry for a %17 beer. Never gets too sweet, even at room temp.

Lately I've really been enjoying Sam smith Yorkshire Stingo. Great with a little time on it. Also founders old curmudgeon.

I've really been loving North Coast Old Stock Ale for the last year or so. Almost 12% and drinks like a nice port wine after it's warmed up a little (I even ordered my first keg of it the othe other day!) . Also big on SN Bigfoot, Stone's double Bastard and a few of their other high ABV's. Also check out DFH Burtaon Baton--it's a 10%er that goes down pretty easy. Founders Double Trouble is pretty straight too dude.

Because of this post I am now going to drop the $12-13 on a bottle of Conflux #1. I had #2 a while back and wasn't too impressed so when I saw this I figured I'd skip it, especially at that price for a 12 oz bottle. But this post got me wondering (since #2 def wouldn't be a "strong ale") so I looked it up and it sounds like an amazing blend. Word up.

King Henry & Mother of all Storms are my two favorite beers.

Like noted previously, anything big from Kuhnhenn is awesome. That BA BW is awesome.

Had never heard of Midnight Sun before until I tried their Arctic Devil Barley Wine. It was amazing. I've been looking for a bottle of it ever since and can't land one. I got their Beserker Stout recently and I am looking forward to open it pretty soon.

    Others I've enjoyed recently:

    Alpine Bad Boy
    FW Parabola
    Deschutes BB XXIV
    AleSmith Speedway Stout
    Lost Abbey Serpent Stout
    Hair of the Dog Adam
    North Coast Old Stock Ale
    Bruery Fruet

Mostly west coast beers since I don't have access to stuff from the east.

    Cheers!
