Heading up to the Finger lakes (Specifically Naples/Chanandaigua area). Anyone have any brewery/brew pub recommendations? Seems like everything listened is pretty mediocre but wondering if there is a diamond in the rough. Also if anyone has winery, restaurant, or hiking trail recommendations would be a plus! Cheers!
definitely some recent (and perhaps no so recent) threads on this: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/finger-lakes-then-buffalo-from-central-pa.573486/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...isit-breweries-in-finger-lakes-region.515244/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...inger+lakes&o=date&c[title_only]=1&c[node]=10 Also, re hiking - I remember pretty nice hike (non-challenging) in Watkins Glen state park at the south end of Seneca Lake that was very nice and scenic - bunch of waterfalls to see... http://www.gowaterfalling.com/waterfalls/watkins.shtml
A little bit of a drive, but on the East side of Seneca Lake, Wagner has a brewery (ok), a winery (my wife likes it) and a restaurant which is very good and has a great view of the lake from their deck. Close by is Two Goats and Lucky Hare which are both alright. I think you have to pass War Horse on the way which is worth a stop as well. Plenty of hiking in the Finger Lakes area, Alltrails app will give details based on closeness and difficulty..
For hikes, check out either Conklins gulley or Clark's gulley, both are pretty neat. If you want a great farm to table casual restaurant, check out Roots Cafe in Naples, has that old hippie feel to it.
Taughannock State Park, west side of the next lake to the east, Cayuga I think, not too far from Wagner's.
If you are going to be in/near Naples the other places mentioned are all good but a bit of a drive. Keuka Lake is just a bit east of Naples and has a couple decent spots Abandon and Lyonsmith. If you head up to the north end of Canandaigua Lake there are five breweries all with in a couple miles of each other. I haven't been to them yet but exploration is half of the fun anyway.
Young Lion, right on the head of Canandaigua Lake, is making awesome beer. Beautiful spot, too, especially when you sit outside. From there, take a quick walk down to Twisted Rail. Beer is solid enough, but the view is immaculate. Noble Shepherd is on the West side of the lake making some of the best beer in the area. They really do a wide variety of styles very well. Naked Dove is nice, but you can't do pints. Just flights and growlers to go. They've got a great saison that's worth grabbing a growler of, though, and their prices are super cheap. Three Huskies is just a homey sports bar where one of the guys makes his own beer, but it's solid. Worth checking out. Peacemaker off main st is VERY skippable.
