So me and my tasting partner finally cracked open my Firestone 14 that I received in a trade (thanks YaKnowBrady) along with a 15 that I had. 14 absolutely blew me away above my expectations. Somewhere between a stout/barleywine/old ale flavor to it. I most likely enjoyed it more than 15 due to the higher % of Parabola which is one of my favorite stouts. Anyways, does anybody out there have 14 laying around and if so what would you trade it for. Keep in mind I live in NJ. Appreciate the feedback.

    Cheers!

Things in your gots such as Black Tuesday, Lindley Park and Event Horizon shouldn't have much of a problem getting a FW 14.

My gots list isn't all up to date (unfortunately) which is me being lazy. But I was more going for, could I land it with a higher quality off the shelf such as Parabola, Abyss, or will it take something bigger. I realize I have things that could easily land it such as Black Tuesday, but I'm not going to give that up for a 14. Appreciate all the input guys.

I certainly would consider sending a 14 and something small for 2 Abyss. Mag00n is right about the problem with offering yearly FW releases for a one-off FW release.

Depends on the year of the Abyss, a pre09 might get it done

What? 14 sat on shelves forever (there were places around me that still had it when 15 came out!). I wouldn't be shocked if you could get one with, like, Zombie Dust, or some other limited local. No way in hell I'd trade anything like '08 Abyss for one.

Perhaps in CA. I never see the anniversary beers just sitting around out here.

Yeah, I agree. My hypothetical Abyss trade would be two of the latest vintage.

basically what you need is luck; 1) someone stockpiled 14, and 2) they're up for trading them rather than drinking. even drinking-stockpilers probably have a price, but you need to overpay for things that aren't for sale, in general.

no idea what will get it done. if i had 14 and were trading, abyss 10 would get it done pretty easily, and abyss 11 would not get it done. abyss 08 and below would definitely not be necessary.

actually, you know, on second thought, i think parabola and abacus would get it done too. 14 was like $25. if i had one, and someone offered to send me 2 sucaba for 1 fourteen + a local or two, i'd probably do it. all moot though; i drank my 14s/15s. loved both, by the way.

Hey! Finally found a thread where somebody is looking for something I actually have. I have a couple bottles of Firestone 14 that I stocked up on a few weeks ago. Here's my situation: I'm active duty Air Force stationed in Germany and I'll be here until 2015. Until then, there is almost zero chance that I'll get to any trips to the States. I'm also brand new here on these boards, I was actually referred over from Reddit's beer/beer trade board. I'd be more than happy to set up a trade with you if you're still looking for a bottle or two of Firestone 14. Since it's damn near impossible to get most American craft beers over here in Germany, especially rare ones, I'm pretty open as far as wants go. There are a few beers in particular I would definitely trade for if you're still looking to so just let me know.

Id trade one for shelf gueuze like drie fonteinen, tilquin or cantillon.

14 sat on shelves until after 15 came out. I think the you're up against a few problems now though - a) it's a really good beer, b) it's more expensive than what you are looking to offer up, and c) most of the bottles people still have are being saved for aging/verticals.

I'm sure you can land it without breaking the bank, but you might need to go 2-for-1 with a current shelf release.

14 is drinking pretty awesome right now so I'd imagine BAs who still have bottles left would like to hang on to theirs unless you offer something equally awesome and just as hard to find now. Yes, it sat on shelves for a while, but I'd attribute that to the price and lack of hype surrounding it rather to it being an inferior beer (which it absolutely isn't). Also, I wouldn't hold the fact that it sat on shelves for a long time against it... that used to be the case with BCBS and look at how much people bust a nut over it now.

to what would you attribute the "lack of hype"?

I think he indirectly alluded to the reason:

When BCBS sat on shelves, little hype, no "whale" status. BCBS gone from shelves, BCBS = whale. Maybe it's a tautology to say no one cared about FW 14 when it was on shelves because it was on shelves, but I think we can appreciate how the vicious cycle goes. (In other words, no one cares until it's gone.)

I still wouldn't trade an arm and a leg for FW 14, though. 2X Abyss post 2009 sounds about right.

Glad you finally drank it, that shit is amazing. I still have a couple bottles myself, but as most people have stated here, I'd be hard pressed to give it up to vertical aging as well as it's never coming out again, and is so damn delicious.
