Anyone tried this year's DDBA yet? How does it compare to last years? Heard anything about this distro for this? seems like its limited allotment per liquor store....kinda like the parabola and monkee... or will it sit around alittle like last year's bottles?
This is the final bottling. I believe same amount of bottles/distro could have a little more hype around it because of final bottling but it should probably still sit.
The stores local to me all have 1 bottle limits, I've picked up 3 bottles so far but haven't opened any to try yet.
Saw some at stores recently, but honestly I still see last years DDBA at places too with almost no mark up. Can't say the same for any of the other FW releases.
Which is probably why this is the last bottling of it. I tasted it against 13 and DDBA 60 - Liked DDBA 60 the best, but 14 was tasting mighty good.
Sad to hear this is the last bottling. DDBA is a great brew. I don't know why it doesn't get the attention it deserves.
Just had a bottle last night and it was great. Overall I think DDBA was a lot more subtle and mild than stickee and Parabola so I can see why it would be less popular if people expect the boldness of those. It almost seems like it's lacking something if you compared it to those other beers from the series which probably isn't fair because it really is fantastic on its own.
From what I remember at the Bretta Weiss release, this was a single barrel version of DDBA that had been in a barrel for 6 or 7 years.
I used to hate DDBA but gave DDBA 60 a try at Barrelworks, it was fantastic. Bought a couple of bottles of DDBA since my palate must have changed since first tried it.
I wonder if they have any DDBA 60 left at barrel works. Ill be working in Santa Barbara this week and was already thinking about making a trip up there one evening.
DDBA Barrel #60 has Brett in it. Changed the flavor profile somewhat and made it drier. That and it's at least 4 years old.
Was just at FW earlier today and they do have a gift set of DDBA '12,'13, and '14 plus you get 2 snifters for $95. I got 4 DDBA bottles of '14. Did not see DDBA 60 tho. They are also doing a $6 ol leghorn 4oz pour in which you get to keep the logo snifter. Got to drink a sample while shopping, too awesome. The promo worked cause its an awesome beer that I wouldn't have purchased if I hadn't tasted first. They currently have anniversary bottles 14-17, Sucacba, DDBA, Stickee Monkee, and Parabola '12 for $55. They are out of Bretta Rose but do have Bretta Weisse, Lil Opal, and Opal. Two separate trips to the store this weekend while visiting the coast and $260+ later and I can't wait to go back.
