Listed as a barleywine under style on the product webpage.

But, yes, it seems to carry both descriptions.

barleywine makes sense tho, thats what i would expect an imperial esp (triple esp?) to have a lot of common aspects with.

id love to taste the none ba version of this beer

Will this beer age well? Is it worth laying down for a couple years?

i would image so, parabola ages very well while i think abacus loses a bit of spark. i bet it will age much better than their anniversary ales tho.

since its a new beer, only time will tell on this one. im countin on it as i plan to grab a lot of this! i seriously cant wait till this guy is released.

Definitely going to have to search out a bottle or two of this. Had it on tap when I visited the brewery last week and really loved it! As a side note, I felt Sucaba was way better on tap than I've ever experienced in a bottle. Could have just been the moment though...

Resembles a barleywine, huh? Not a barleywine fan, my interest in this one just dropped some. Oh well.

they age ok. but not for long term, but since they are all different only time tells how well they do. they added in their ipa in the latest version, so the taste should change pretty quick on that guy.
ive had 12 and 13 recently and they werent that great anymore

keep up on reviews when our aging beers, when beers begin goin down hill it starts to show

    Space ritual..no way!
I shouldn't say its a barleywine because it isn't, but its huge, caramel/toffee oak-y flavor deceived me. There is a lot going on in this beer. Between Wookey Jack and this I think I'm liking these guys more than Stone atm. :grinning:
Here's some newly posted info from FS..http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=4db1d226d48f191ed39b53c5c&id=c4754e444d
They talk about some of the sours towards the bottom of the page..Haven't seen Lil' Opal or Agrestic, any of you?
Their 15th anniv party had a soured DDBA...that was some funkiness!

Yeah I had it on tap at the brewery too - man, I went in there licking my lips for draft Sucaba, but when I got my last drink it was definitely a second DDBA. Stupid good stuff.

It's a barley wine. The ISB name is just a nod to DBA being a special bitter, and this is the "imperial" version of it. But ISB isn't a "real" style, and this beer is firmly in the english barley wine category. Compared to Abacus, it's a touch more about lighter toasty caramel and toffee flavors, as opposed to darker dried fruit and tobacco flavors.

Aging was mostly in bourbon barrels, with lesser parts of brandy, rye, and retired union barrels.

It's a big, sweet, malty beer, so I expect that age will be good to it. Since this is the first bottling though, only time will tell...

Had a bottle of this at Far Bar in DTLA the other night, it was amazing - haven't seen it hit any shops yet tho... I'll definitely be grabbing a handful of bottles when I get the chance.

Soon, hopefully. I work at BevMo and recently put an order in for a couple cases. There's no guarantee it will show up but i'm hoping it will.

I tried it over the weekend. Good but not on the level of Abacus or Parabola in my opinion.

I agree. Such a great idea, turning bitter into a Barleywine style. It had a lot of aroma and flavor at the front and then just dropped off. May have been the bottle or maybe it was too cold. I plan to try another.
