Looking forward to the opening this year sometime. Sooner than later. Although still a drive from north OC area but closer than driving up to Buellton or PaSo. Maybe the next FW will be built near the OC/LA border.

You're totally right. It might be one of the worst intersections in all of LA.

One can only hope they are open for lunch so I could hit it and quit it and get home before rush hour on a day off.

I can't even imagine that they would not open for lunch.

I'm sure it will be a popular lunch spot with locals and visitors.

The trick to getting in and out of that location is the 90 freeway.

It would be amazing if they can get BW bottles for sale. Even have pickups for releases sent down this way. Growler fills will have to do

Interesting article about the Venice Brewery:

    http://veniceupdate.com/2015/07/20/duvel-invests-in-firestone-walker/

    I found this quote interesting:
"When asked if they would be selling Duvel beers, Adam Firestone said: “We are not an importer so it will mostly be our beers. We are hoping to try some of Duvel’s really top shelf stuff, and maybe, figure a way to let our Venetian customers do the same."

The article also discusses having to fight their way though the ridiculous obstacle course that the LA city government continues to create.

I know we all appreciate them making the good fight and hanging in there. Hopefully they will cross the finish line this year.

I had heard they were having so many permit issues with Venice. Man, thanks city of Venice. You made Firestone sell a portion of their company to bring in money to your area!

Its not just the City of Los Angeles, I've read there are people trying to stop the brewery and are tying things up with endless appeals.

Living in that exact area and being familiar with starting small businesses, I can tell you that they have AT LEAST a half dozen local and city agencies to get approval from in one form or another.

    City of LA
    Venice Neighborhood Association
    California Coastal Commission
    LA County Department of Health
    California ABC
    Development and Planning Commision

Venice has become a particularly difficult area to open a business thanks to the big tech invasion of Venice Beach.

"Bright side/down side," being Venice, you know they'll be no shortage of mules lying around for beer releases. <sigh>

Which makes no sense to me. You would think people would want more bars open. The more bars that are open means that there is probably a higher chance that one in your neighborhood is one you would like. If you like the one in your neighborhood you are more likely to walk there rather than drive. Open a decent bar within walking distance of everyone, like it used to be, and I would put heavy money on DUI deaths dropping. Instead people have killed off good bars in a dual instance of anti-drunk driving means that bars need to close, and people flocking to suburban style sprawl and making things so they are so far away that you must drive to things. That combo has had the opposite results of the intention.

Also the NIMBY syndrome has left a giant Target building in my neighborhood about 75% completed for several years. They believe that it is an eyesore (and it is about 20 feet taller than code, but that is why they think it will be an eyesore). So instead we are stuck with a giant construction site that is an eyesore, and no end in sight on the legal battle. Would make things a lot easier for me to be able to walk to a Target instead of having to drive 30 minutes for one, and 30 minutes back.

Regardless of what's going on with the permit process or politics in LA, Venice, MDR or whatever I can personally attest that there was work/construction being done today. Don't believe me? Here are some photos I snapped just today. It still looks like there's a long way to go but it's something I guess.

Washington Blvd view (notice the guy on he roof with a piece of plywood):

View from Stanford Ave (rear corner of the building):

View from behind the building (from the alley). This looks like it's the brewery section of the building:

Another view from the rear of the building looking at what appears to be the brewery section (note the large opening - to bring in brewery equipment??) (also note guy on roof doing some work):

And for good measure this is the parking lot (behind the alley/building):

Scratch this! I need to set the record straight. My Mistake. Sorry about that.

I went back and pulled the link on the August 5th Zoning hearing from Venice Update. I now see the NIMBY issue was with another location, not related to Firestone or the Brewery.

Also found this info in reference to the Venice Neighborhood Council:

"Firestone-Walker Brew Pup breezed thru without opposition. The board count was almost unanimous."

So I guess everyone wants this in their backyard. I know I do.

Every time I see this thread bumped I get excited and then sad. I'll still keep clicking though..

I was at Barrelworks over the weekend and it got me thinking about what Venice will be like. I really hope they are going to offer more than the FW brewpubs have on tap. I know they are planning on having a brew facility and having some Venice only taps, which is awesome. But I hope they will also have flowing Proprietor's Series stuff on tap.

Going to Barrelworks just made me realize once again how incredible FW is. It's hard for anyone else to compare to this tap list:
