Looked through past threads but couldn't find a consensus. In general, which FW location would be the best to go to for an assortment of bottles to go?

they are all pretty far apart. are you planning on driving to which ever one, based on bottles to go?

i'd recommend going to whichever one is closest to where you'll be and you'll find good stuff to take home

Yeah they are all about 2+hrs apart. Which one is near other things you are doing? Barrelworks is most likely not near anything you are doing unless you are in Santa Barbara or taking the scenic route from LA to SF. Most likely the closest location to you will be Venice assuming you are doing anything in LA. If you are in SF, then Paseo is the closest, but that is a hike.

I'm planning on starting in San Diego, head up to LA and then continue further north through the state. My itinerary is so loose that I can hit up any of them. Essentially, whichever one I end up at will determine where I'm spending the night. So it sounds like they're all pretty much equal, and they all do sell bottles?

For bottles to go, it's going to be pretty much the same among locations, but IMHO Buellton Barrelworks has a somewhat better selection of draft selections, skewing towards sours/wilds. However, I'd rather spend the night in Paso, for sure.

Yeah if you want a really good tap selection, definitely go to Barrelworks.

Wife and I will be visiting the first week of June and have been asking the same question. For us it is between Paso Robles, where we already have hotel reservations, and the Barrelworks. It is almost impossible to get Parabola, Sucuba etc. in Missouri. We of course want to enjoy on tap, but bigger interest is bottle availability. We are driving in large part so we can bring bottles home. So is there really any difference between Paso and Barrelworks in terms of bottles to go?

Barrelworks has a lot more Barrelworks bottles to go and on draft, but being a little closer to a major metro area, it also gets more traffic and runs out of stuff faster than Paso.

If you want to find vintages of Sucaba Parabola, anniversary beers definitely Paso Robles. If you want more sours/wild ales, go to Barrelworks.
