What is the shelf life of Parabola? I found a store that has 16 in stock @ $15.99. Wondering if I should buy them all. If I store some away for a much later time, will it still be good or do they have a shelf life?

I opened a bottle just now... It's really, really good. I can only imagine it'll be in a year or so! I will definitely put a couple away!!!

So it is like wine? It gets better with age? I thought beer went the other direction.

I just got a 2013 in a trade. I have never had Parabola so this will be my first time. I know I should open it soon but I just can't bring myself to do it. One thing that sucks about Ohio is the f'n abv laws. Also just had my first ever BCBS about two months ago(phenomenal), trying to work my way through the big boys through trades.

There are many resources on this website (and others) on cellaring beer—as a rule of thumb, higher abv (~10% and up) beers should hold up for a year or two in the proper conditions (stored vertically, 55° or cooler). This is by no means universal (there are many high abv stouts that are still best fresh), but you are probably thinking of IPAs (and other hoppy beers like American Barleywines or Ambers) in terms of beer that is meant to be consumed as fresh as possible. This is a pretty good reference, and most of the introductory stuff is available via the "Look Inside" feature.

Good marketing strategy by FW. Spread the beer super thin in as many markets as possible = hysteria = profit.

Damn straight. Oh, and it tastes amazing. That helps their strategy.

Heh, at first I thought you meant XIV, as opposed to Parabola '14—the former necessarily being aged at this point, of course. But yes, quite lucky either way.

I had some XVI a couple weeks ago, it was quite delicious. I think I preferred the 14 parabola tho.

Joe is a nice guy but he does that shit every year. Last year same thing, sat in the corner cooler for $26. When I asked him why it was so expensive, he shrugged and said, "nobody else has it". About a month later it was gone, so someone bought it.
