First Bar Beer

Blue Moon. Yep. Still a worthwhile memory.

I made a little production out of it by inviting my father out for lunch and sharing my first legal beer with him.

 

It was probably a Genesee. I grew up in dry town, in rural Upstate NY. There was this little farmers bar just over the town line. We used to ride our 10-speeds there when we were 13-14, and as long as we sat quietly in the corner, and not annoy the farmers who were in for lunch, they would sell us a couple glasses. A quarter for a 8-10oz glass.

 

Something in Germany when I was 20. An incredible experience I'll never quite remember.

 

Whatever my first was, it was quite forgettable. Which means it was probably Bug Light

 

I'm right there with you. First legal beer, can't even remember...probably at a Mexican restaurant, either Corona or Dos Equis. NC hadn't popped the cap yet, so our pickin's were slim.

 

It was Fosters. I went to a club the night of my 21st birthday and went in at midnight. This was before I cared about or even liked beer, so I just bought whatever was biggest, which was the Fosters oil can.

 

I'm sure it was ( in Hickory, NC ) a Miller High Life. First Draft? Same.
First Craft beer at least 7 years later? Some sort of Irish Red from some brewpub in Pensacola, FL ( McGuire's Irish Pub )

 

Guinness, I think. Then Samuel Adams Summer Ale.

 

I was in a grind band when i was 18 and played a lot of bars who didn't kick me out , so I had numerous I never paid attention to. But on the day I turned 21 before work I decided I wanted to go to a bar and drink legally before work, however the only bar close was a bizarre asian donut shop in morning and asian bbq lunch-dinner sports bar, so I went in at 7 am and bought a Saporro.

Maybe more bizarre was the small asian lady seemed not at all shocked , someone would come in and drink at that time in a donut shop. The place has shut down.

 

Probably Miller High Life or maybe a Pete's Wicked Ale. In those days the selection in Alabama was pretty limited, so you took what you could get.

 

I really had to think about this one....I think it was when I was just getting into beer and I ordered a sam adams boston lager.

 

A bottle of Bell's Best Brown. The bar was tiny and packed, and the beer was unfortunately forgettable.

 

Bass Ale on draft. Was 17 and sporting a self-made fake ID.

 

Probably a Bud Light, when I was 19 with a fake ID.

Probably a Budweiser. I was 16, and had just played the second or third show in my first band. My bandmates were all over 21, and the bartender was mighty suspicious, but took my money anyway.

 

Amstel Light and I thought I was so cool I could light a match in a wind storm for ordering an "import."

 

Well when I moved to NYC when I was 18 in the mid-90s, getting into bars without an ID was no problem. So I think pre-21 I probably ordered a Heineken over at Shades of Green over near Irving Plaza.

I do know that on my 21st birthday I went to the Times Square Brewery (the old one) and ordered tasting of their brews.

 

Probably Coors Light or some other swilly shit like that.
