It was either Anchor Steam or Samuel Smith pale ale that first introduced me to elevated hop bitterness, compared to macro lagers of the 1980s. Not sure when I first had Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but this was the first beer in which hop aromas and flavors stood out for me.

    Probably Pike IPA.

When I first tried it I thought it was a really hoppy! I still think it 's pretty good but actually a pretty balanced IPA.

Torpedo and Hop Stoopid were my first beers with truly prominent hops.

60 Minute was the straw that broke the camel's back for us.

The beer that truly help me understand IPAs was SN Celebration Ale, really good. Then I had Pliny the Elder, world class. Now after about a year of drinking IPAs I can distinguish different flavor nuances in the beers.

It was either Ruination or Harpoon IPA.

Sneaky Pete and Sierra Nevada. It took a while for my taste buds to adjust. Especially when they were accustomed to Miller Lite, Coors Light, Bud Light and other watered down beer.

I wasn't aware that hops were even in beer until Miller told me they 'triple hopped' their beer. After trying the beer, I thought hops were tasteless. LOL.

    Enjoy

Stones Arrogant Bastard ale (also what made me fall in love with the chinook strain) and SN Torpedo was a big eye opener the first time I ever tired it lol

Wild Goose IPA in the mid 90's. While SNPA was hoppy, it never really hit me like that one did. I remember not liking it at all. I had a friend that loved it and that's all he ever had at his place. Whenever I'd visit, I knew to bring some Red Hook or cider with me.

Probably Three Floyds Dreadnaught. It was the very first world-class IIPA I tried. Before I drank that, I had no idea a beer so bitter could taste so good.

Flying dog Snake dog, SNPA, and West Coast IPA. Id probably had SNPA before Snake dog, but snake dog is what really got me into craft. SNPA had a good impact on me and WCIPA was what made me become obsessed with hoppy beers.

Most definitely Ska Brewing Modus Hoperandi for me; a relatively strong dose of pine resin and citrus notes.

Gonna have to say SNPA and didn't really care for it. Then my palate matured a little and I tried ranger. From there I was lucky enough to have hopslam on draft and never looked back.

Stone Ruination, and I was not a fan. It was my first beer that really hit me in the face with that hop flavor and I was taken aback that people were seeking that experience out willfully.

Months later I tried Bell's Two Hearted and the more gentle hoppiness paired with the citrus and fresh pine won me over. This made me give IPAs another chance and because of that my palate continued to mature. The first high IBU beer that I decidedly enjoyed the overwhelming hop flavor in was Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous. After that there was really no looking back.
