First BIAB batch completed - whew! [IMG]

Did a 5 gal cream ale (from Austin Homebrew) to which I added some sweet orange peel, as well as their Brewvint Alcohol Boost - which boosted my OG a bit.

Base kit OG called for 1.052, but with the Brewvint I figured that would bump up a bit. My pre-boil OG was 1.042, while the post-boil came in at 1.061. My boil volume came up about 1/4 of gal short of what I was expecting, but I'm chalking that up to inaccurate initial volumes. Mash temps at 150 (per the kit instructions).

Not 100% sure how to figure efficiency, but I'm hoping it is within range since the OG is about where I was expecting.

This was also my first batch out of the kitchen and in the garage with the Blichmann, so I really felt a bit more frantic this first time. No major tragedies, and we'll see how things go....

PFFT! And you were worried that this wouldn't go well. Sounds like it went smooth. 1.061 IS getting up there for a cream ale. Expect it to shape up a little slow. Keep your fermentatin temp cool if you can and don't rush it. It won't be chuggable for a few more months. No biggie, and if it's drinkable on your fist batch, consider it a win. An AG batch is a big bite for a first brew. Be patient with the process. I think it's fair to say that with your first brew, and your first AG, you learn as much about how NOT to brew as you learn how TO brew.

    Congrats!
