Hey guys just joined the forum after being a fan for a while now. My first home made batch of beer was completed this morning after 2 weeks of fermentation. BUT i have a few questions. I used a Mr. Beer American Light pack that was given to me, the color on it looks great, however when i first pulled the spigot a glob of white stuff came out. On the second pull it did not come out again. So i was wondering if this was just some yeast that might have built up or did my batch grow mold? I'm going to attach some pictures as a reference. Thanks guys and i hope to hear form you guys.[IMG]

    Yeah, that looks like yeast.

I agree that it looks like yeast. However, if it had a slimy consistency like snot, it could be coagulated protein, although I don't know if you can get that from a Mr. Beer kit. But either substance is safe to consume, so no worries.

    P. S. Welcome to the BA site, and to the Homebrewing forum. Enjoy your time on the site and hang out here as much as you'd like.

It might have been a protein coagulate it was like a runny consistency. And thanks for the welcome! I will definitely be here with more questions. I want to break away from the kits after this batch and get into brewing with regular materials.

So i'm still waiting for my bottles to arrive, my kit says fermentation should take two weeks, which obviously its been that from the details in my previous post. Is it bad if i let it sit and ferment for another week until my bottles arrive?

No, it will probably actually be good for your beer for extra conditioning. The yeast will have more time to clean up after themselves and improve your beer.

The yeast is above the spigot until it flocs out. The inside of the spigot always gets some yeast caught in it. I dump 8 ozs hard and fast into a cup prior to kegging or bottling to clear the spigot.
