I got a Duda B3-23A plate chiller a few months ago. Took it out for its first spin today. I gotta say I'm impressed! With the pump valve wide open, wort temp on the output side was 61 degrees!! 212F going in (I had just turned off the burner). Granted, it was flowing kind of slowly (some resistance going through the chiller), but it took all of 6 minutes to chill 6 gallons of wort to 61F. Not too shabby! Sure, it lacks the visual charm of my totally ghetto home-made 50' 1/2" copper IC, but I'm happy to say I'm past that phase in my brewing career. It's more about efficiency now.

What was the temperature of the tap water going into the plate chiller?

Glad you had a good experience! Since I've switched to a plate I've been very happy, especially when chilling 20 gallon batches (10 min plate versus 2 hours with immersion).

Chicago city water in January. I just checked it - it's coming out of the faucet at 46F. I probably could have chilled it even lower if I slowed the flow, but I pitched an Ale yeast, so 61 is fine. Summertime won't be nearly as dramatic, but I'm happy, so far!
