    hello,

I have had my first lager fermenting for about 12 days.

I think it will need a diacetyl rest, it is somewhat noticeable.

The only problem is my hydrometer is broken. I planned on doing at around 50% attenuation or 75% of fermentation. I suspect that fermentation is done. Is there harm in doing a diacetyl rest even if the beer is done, I know it may not clean it up as much, but is there harm in doing it?

There's no harm. And there's no reason that it can't clean it all up.

It's also said if the beer has hit FG that you can add an extra quart of actively fermenting beer to your batch to help clean the whole thing up.

50 points to anyone who knows what the term is.

what about just some DME or sugar in boiled water?

I think DME would be a good idea. Temps would be up (68F) and you're pouring wort onto the high krausen line of a fermenter. It should have yeast. It should have food. I don't know if it would be any different than pitching a quart of actively fermenting yeast. It might be slightly dependent on the strain of yeast. If the yeast has a tendency to putter out or stall, I'd go the extra mile and pitch an active starter into your beer.
