Surprised by this one. I love Three Philosophers, but I can't ever see myself choosing it over Abt 12. However, everyone has their own taste!

This plus the last bottle of 6th Glass I had was better than 3 Philos.

I'm actually drinking one right now. To the OP make sure you add Boulevard's The Sixth Glass (quad) and Long Strange Tripel (tripel) to the list.

Lol it's not like they're horrible or anything, and you can buy the little 3 pack and get a free glass.

BTW thnx for the info on Le Trappe, i think i've seen it around here so i'll have to pick it up.

Ill be trying Orval & Westmalle Dubbel for the first time tomorrow!

Ha, No No. I said that because that guy's name is Rochefort something or other and his picture has Rochefort 10 and a Rochefort quad glass.

6th Glass is my favorite American Quad/Belgian Strong Ale.

Haha, I actually just finished a Sixth Glass. Warming is for reeeeeal. I knew about Chimay, but my broke ass just hasn't been ready to shell out $10 for the damn bottle yet. To address an earlier comment, I guess I knew that Trappist breweries didn't only brew Quads... Shouldn't have phrased it like that. I guess I'm more interested in the quad thing, though I'm very curious to learn more about Trappist beers too.

Pick up a gift set if you can. It shouldn't be too hard to find during the holiday season. It's $21 for all four brews and their chalice is pretty badass. However, their blond (a Belgian Pale Ale) is average at best in my opinion. Their dubbel is solid, delicious tripel, and a quad that is above average.

Just an FYI, La Trappe is the only Trappist brewery that isn't in Belgium. It's in the Netherlands.

It looks like St. Bernardus Abt. 12 is on my short list. Looks enticing.

I would buy the shit outta Chimay at $10/bottle. Providing that's the 750ml bottle and not the single serving size. The 750's go for $14.50 in my neck of the woods. I remember when they were only $8.50/bottle. Memories.

    St Bernardus 12
    Pannepot
    Rochefort 10
    La Trappe
    Three Philosophers

That's the order I use when I go buy quads

Cool. Helps with recommendations. Quads and dubbels are the darker brews. Tripels and Belgian pale ales (referred to sometimes as a "blond(e)") are lighter in color.

The $85 pack you referred to was the first release of Westvleteren 12 in the United States and outside of Belgium. "Westy" 12 is hard to obtain and has the reputation of being the "king" among quads although you'll get plenty of debate in these forums about that. St. Bernardus Abt 12 is actually brewed using the exact same ingredients (long story) except for the yeast. Trappist brews, even trappist-style brews are going to be a little more on the expensive side.

For the most part, I would agree. I'm still not sure about put Pannepot about Rochefort. I'm going to have to do that blind taste test...

Only one of the Trappist breweries produces a Quadrupel. They don't even all make Dubs or Trips.

Quads/Belgian Strong Ales are the same thing. And they don't even have "Quads" in Belgium just Strong Ales or so I have read on here before.
