A while back I picked up Jolly Pumpkin's La Roja. I didn't know what "Flanders Style" meant, and I scarcely noticed it on the label. A very surprising but lucky chance.

That was the first one I ever tried, and I actually enjoyed it a lot. It wasn't too extreme.

This was my first sour close to 4 years ago. I had never heard of the style and it took me by surprise. I wasn't really into them to start, but they are one of my favorites now. I'd recommend a Flanders Red such as Cuvee de Jacobins Rouge or Rodenbach. They are both affordable and easy to find and have enough malt to balance the sour.

Why not start with one of the best around?

I remember tasting my first sour, but couldn't tell you what it was cause it was the servers choice. I asked to try a sour at Ashley's Ann Arbor so pretty sure it was a Belgium.

My second was LaFolie and was sweeter than the first, now I'm hooked.

I'm under the impression that other foods you eat are a good indicator if you will like a sour...

Do you eat sour cream or salads with vinaigrette? Did you like Sweet Tarts as a kid? To me, sours are like liquid candy and I would drink em all the time of they weren't so damn expensive in comparison. Happy experimenting, the bug might bite you!

If you like saison and Hefe's try 1809. More tart then sour very tasty. Another good one that is more sour and coming out soon is La Follie.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Incorrigible from New Holland Brewing Company, had a Granny Smith apple cider quality to it, slight oaky notes too. I have to go down and get my bottles of their Blue Sunday too!

Just traded for this, and am actually about to try it for the first time. My first sour was only late last year (bear Republic Tartare), and I've tried a handful of others at here and there, but I'm hoping this knocks it out of the park for me.

My first was Supplication. Love at first taste....it's been a long, expensive affair.

My first one, was my last one. I am advocate of 'drink what you like'. I didn't like it so I don't drink that "style". If you find it enjoyable, by all means, drink it. Don't worry about what others think. It's your tastebuds.

My first was Rodenbach Grand Cru and it threw me off. I didn't realize it was a sour and when it hit my lips I was like hold up this is like a winish beer. It was good though. Just so much different than what I expected. I would recommend Westbrook Gose ( a little surprised no one has mentioned it) as a good starter. It'll make your whole mouth pucker as soon as it touches your lips but the salt kinda counteracts it on the way down. It's one of my favorites. Also, Tart of Darkness is great. Not too sour but enough to smack your lips. Also, anything Cantillon or 3f. Can't go wrong there.
