I am currently drinking my first Stone Enjoy By. I think it's excellent. Really excellent. This is one happy Canadian to get my hands on this in my local store! I picked up two this afternoon.

I've only been able to find Ruination once a couple months ago. It blew me away.

I've found Lagunitas Sucks twice recently. At the time I thought it was the best DIPA I'd ever had. I still think it might be but this Enjoy By is so good!

I found Hop Stoopid just before Christmas and loved it. I'm not sure where it fits in.

I'd love to do a blind taste test between those four beers. Has anyone done that? What's your verdict?

The stone enjoy by series is amazing. I've had all the beers you've had and the newest enjoy by 2.14.15 is the best

Huge Enjoy By fan here, I've never done a side by side with the beers you mentioned(Sucks would be the only one worthy imo), but great news. Just as 2-14 is cleaning up on shelves, here comes Enjoy By Pi, which is getting a pretty wide distro, including Alberta. Cheers!

I have also had all the beers you mentioned. I've never done a blind taste test, but to me this most recent offering of Enjoy By was easily the best I have had yet. The other three are fantastic examples and would be very close, but the 2.14.15 Enjoy By would take the cake for me.

4.20.14 was the best of the series so far IMO.

The Verdict? If I could get all these beers in the Beer Cave at my local shop..I'd buy them more often. Fresh Ruination is hard to beat though.

Stone does not change the Enjoy By recipe from release to release.

Are you just trying to stir things up!?!

There was a recent thread where Mitch Steele mentioned that about a year or so ago they had to 'switch up' the hops used for dry hopping. The changes they made would have a very noticeable impact.

While they state that the recipe has not changed in the past year or so I personally have found noticeable differences in the flavor profiles of the various releases. I was not a big fan of one of the December 2014 releases and while I enjoyed this most recent release (2-14-15) I picked up some flavors that were reminiscent of petroleum that I have never experienced in prior releases; the level of petroleum flavor was low but perceptible.

    Cheers!

I might be the only one, but I just don't think the Enjoy By series is all that great. There a whole bunch of DIPAs id take over an EB.

Jack, it is my feeling that any batch to batch variation or rare changes due to available materials in Enjoy By would not result in changes that would be greater than the changes exhibited by other beers in the same circumstances. The fact that Enjoy By gets special treatment is indication of mind over matter. I believe that many things influence what we taste. This isn't a bad thing.

“…it is my feeling that any batch to batch variation or rare changes due to available materials in Enjoy By would not result in changes that would be greater than the changes exhibited by other beers in the same circumstances.”

Stone Enjoy By has a much more significant variability from release to release than other beers “batch to batch variation”. It is not just me reporting this; plenty of other BAs have made to same observations.

    Cheers!

    This is interesting...

I bought two bottles of 2.14.15 yesterday from the same store. I had one yesterday and when I poured it it was absolutely clear. I just poured the second bottle and it is very hazy. One reviewer I read said his was hazy.

What have you found with your 2.14.15?

Mine have been all clear. 4 on this 2/14/15 batch. Although I can definatly tell a difference from the one I drank around January 17th compared to the 3 I'm drinking this week. It's like the flavor blast starts turning bitter /ethanol ish. Not bad. Still beats alot of others too me... But have u guys noticed this too? The last batch I had the day before it expired and was not this bitter as the one I'm drinking now 5 days before

The real question is: why would Enjoy By be different (i.e. "more significant variability") than any other beer that doesn't change recipe from batch to batch?

It's true, Stone has noted that they adjusted the hops back in Fall 2013 and also noted that the change was done due to difficulty in procuring Nelson Sauvin in the quantities they required and that they chose the replacement--predominantly Motueka--in order to avoid disruption in the taste and aroma of the final product to the best of their ability.

But that late 2013 recipe change aside, how to explain the belief from "plenty of other BAs" that the beer is different from batch to batch in 2014 (and now 2015) in spite of the recipe being the same during that time period?
