I am going to be brewing an IPA with in the next couple weeks. I have a question about dry hoping, it says add 2oz of whole leaf Simcoe into secondary for 14 days. Is that 2oz a day or 2oz over 14 days period? I tried searching but couldn't find anything, thanks for your help.

2 oz total. 14 days is a long time for dry hopping, I would suggest a week.

@ericj551 I did read that online 1 week was a good amount of time. Thank you for the response.

No problem. I would have liked to try your beer if you had dry hopped it 2 oz a day for 14 days! If you had any beer left after the all the hops absorbed.

    Two things...
The world renowned 'Pliney the Elder' recipe calls for a 14-day dry hop.

Two weeks is not a long time to dry hop unless one thinks PtE is a bush-league product.

Fair enough. I have used the same argument when people question a 30 or 45 minute hop addition (PtE uses a 45 I believe). I am going by info I read in Stan Hieronymus' book hops. I would still argue that 2 weeks is on the long end of dry hopping.

Looking at the recipe, there is a week of dry-hopping, than an addition dry hop addition, with another week. I would imagine that by the second stage of dry hopping, the first addition is mostly spent and not adding too much, so I'll stand by my opinion that one week is plenty for a single stage.

One way to find out if the 1st charge is essentially spent after one week...add all dry hops for a one week rest.

    Chill.
    Serve.
    Enjoy!

I would go with the 2oz hop addition per day, for two weeks.

I do the Firestone walker method. Add dry hops for 3 days then second dry hop three days. Total 6 day dry hop. Works well.
