Hello BA'ers, I'm a relatively new homebrewer with 9 batches of extract/partial mash under my belt and I'm thinking of trying out a 3 gallon BIAB brew day. I'm trying to plan out a simple pseudo-lager type recipe using the second generation of Wyeast 2112, which is currently fermenting. I want to do it no-sparge and I'm trying to figure out what my strike water volume and strike temperature should be, as well as how much grain I should use if I'm going for roughly 1.050 - 1.055 OG. I'm planning on mashing in an insulated cooler with my grain bag, and I'm shooting for about 3.5 gal pre-boil volume without a sparge. Any advice would be welcome and appreciated
I use this to help me calculate my initial water volume... https://pricelessbrewing.github.io/BiabCalc/#Advanced I would say you would need around 6.5lbs of grain to get you to your gravity
First I would suggest some for of software. Follow this for a free you made by VikeMan from the forums here. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/brewcipher.141602/ The software works great if you have a recipe all ready. Or you can build your own and learn as you go. It comes with instructions to add different things if you need them (I find I add hops from time to time). You can also adjust your water profile if you know what your water is like. Other then that, as someone who just did their first all grain BIAB this last weekend, all I can say is take your time and don't try to rush. Make sure you time stuff out. I was at a disadvantage, of it being my first brew day with some new equipment and didn't realize some things until I was scrambling to get stuff together.
I do BIAB and use BrewCipher (thanks to @VikeMan) for all my calculations. The instructions should guide you for no sparge, etc.
