First time beer fest goer

1) You can't drink too much water
2) If you don't like something (or just don't want it), feel free to pour it on the ground/in a bucket

I hate to say it but if they are asking people to buy tickets without seeing a beer list, there is likely to be a lot of common/available at retail beers. That is not to put you down, but my personal experience following beer festivals in my area (I don't usually go unless I see a bunch of stuff I might like). There's still fun to be had in any case!
