So my brother in-law and myself are first time brewers. We've been studying home brewing for months and finally got our kit together to make it. Well we decided to dive right in and go all grain right off the bat. Well we cracked our first bottle of our first batch last night and let me say...It's freakin awesome! lol We did a citra IPA and I don't think it could have turned out any better. Everything didn't go perfect on our first brew day at all but we stayed calm and everything turned out great. Wanted to thank a lot of you guys in here. I've been lurking and reading here for months and I have to say without the knowledge I learned from you guys there's no way it would have turned out this good. Now I just can't wait to brew the next batch! (Which is based on OldSock's coffee stout recipe he shared but with a few tweeks of my own). Thanks again! Cheers!
Great job Hoss! When my first solo batch (partial mash) came out good I was pretty ecstatic too. My first all grain was also fantastic (at least to me!). All grain is the way to go!
Nice work! I just started also and it's such a great feeling when you crack open that first beer and it rocks! Hopefully they'll all be as great!
Congrats buddy! I didn't know you were brewing. Here's a little tip - sell everything non-essential in your house to make room for all of the new brewing equipment you will buying in the near future. Totally addictive hobby. If we get tickets to KBS weekend we will be in Grand Rapids and I'll bring you some homebrew along with your NEW Peruvian Morning which is tasting freaking awesome. Cheers! And congrats on your new brew! John
Thanks John! And I totally agree after that first taste last night, the addiction is setting in strong! lol I'll let you know if I get tickets to KBS day. What day are you planning to go? And yes please bring me some homebrew! Your's at KBS day last year was fantastic!
You'll be surprised how quick 5 gal of beer goes down the gullet. It'll be about a month and you'll need more. That's just about as long as it will take to get your next beer fermented. It took you a long time to get in the door. Get your butt in gear and get a pipeline going.
Yep - it's all about the pipeline! I've not brewed since December and really need to get my butt in gear - fortunately with Sucks coming out I've not been hitting up the 8g+ of homebrew I have laying around (one is an oatmeal stout which can hang around for a while, but the other is a IIPA which is going to turn malty if I don't get on my horse or find friends like like hop monsters.) OP - welcome to the hobby - it's a hell of a lot of fun (and bit ups for going all grain right off the bat - that takes a giant leap of faith!)
Good job! I agree with the above about the pipe line. I have 5 & 1/2 full Kegs and another 5 cases bottled up and I feel I need to brew more!
Thanks everyone I appreciate the kind words. I was just so ecstatic at how well it turned out that I had to share! My brother in-law I both love to cook as well so I figured all grain was right up our alley. And that feeling I got when I took that first sip knowing that I made it completely from scratch felt pretty damn good. There is still plenty I need to learn and can't wait to get to the point where I can completely formulate my own recipe.
