Hello, I am going to Boston for the first time with a group of friends in December. I wanted to know all the great beer bars and beer related places and breweries to go to. I will be there during the weekend of the 18. Is there any beer releases and festivals during that time that i need to go? Thanks to all!!
Be more specific on area or neighborhood. Will you have access to a car? Only 1 true Boston Metro craft beer brewery. Trillium. But Night Shift is a short drive north in Somerville. Best beer bar technically not Boston, Lord Hobo is in Cambridge.
I will not have access to a car, but definitely will be heading out to night shift. I think I am staying in Copley Place( i am assuming that is an area in boston.) I am 1 mile from fenway and 2 miles from boston city hall.
Yea Copley area will help some city guys on BA can dial you into a few good spots. I live in the burbs but grew up in MA. Night Shift and Trillium are the big ones. Then I hear Harpoon has an impressive tap room near Trillium also new brewery in Somerville as well Aeronaut. And Idle Hands is near by. Not too sure on bars though
Trillium is walking distance from Harpoon. Harpoon has the best pretzels. Row 34 is down the street from Trillium and has a pretty good tap list and apparently really good food. Bee's Knees is a good lunch spot near Trillium. Nightshift is maybe a 20 min. drive north of Trillium. Cambridge Brewing Co. Is definitely worth stopping in for a meal and some beers (their sours and barrel aged beers are incredible), really good food there. Other good bars are Lord Hobo, The Publick House, Sunset Tap.

If you're staying in Copley, here are some good bets: Picco: great pizza and very solid, always changing, draft list (http://www.piccorestaurant.com/) Coda and Salty Pig: sibling restaurants with great food and solid beer lists. They also get some rare stuff in from time to time (both got KBS last year) (http://bostonmoxleybeerblog.blogspot.com/) Some folks like Bukowski's, but I've found the draft/bottle list to be less and less interesting over the years. But definitely not a bad spot (http://bukowskitavern.net/boston/) For bottles, best place in the area is Urban Grape (also right next door to Coda). (http://theurbangrape.com/)
Breweries: Night Shift - Orange Line to Wellington Station Idle Hands/Mystic - Close by Night Shift Trillium - Red Line to South Station Bars/Restaurants with great tap lists: Row 34 - Near Trillium Lord Hobo - Cambridge Publick House - Brookline There is always Jack's Abbey and Tree House but without a car I don't recommend them.
Salty Pig and Picco would be good options for you at night before crashing. Trillium, Nigh shift, Cambridge Brewing, Publick House and Jacks Abby for your day time adventures.
Agreed. Although if he just wants bottles and doesn't have a car, he can get those at Urban Grape (they get Trillium deliveries the day they are bottled).
Great lists above, solid advice. Would add 'Deep Ellum' in Allston to the list of Bars to definitely hit (less than 10min by car OR cab from Copley)... Especially if you're heading west for Publick House, OR driving to Jack's Abby. A must hit.
Thanks everyone!! This was very helpful!! Are there any beer festivals that weekend or am hoping for too much!?!
I was at Sunset grill & Tap in allston the other day and I always take that place for granted since we used to live next door back in the day. They have an awesome lineup right now and have about 10 taps each of Clown Shoes and Allagash with some gems in there. You could hit that and Deep Ellum in the same day. I also second night shift- worth the 15 min drive north- and Row 34 which I think has the most thoughtful beer list in the city. If you are in Cambridge to go to Lord Hobo, you can do CBC and Meadhall within walking distance.
Hey all, ill be in Boston at the end of the month. I am looking for a good place to grab some local beers to bring back to MN. I will be on a tight schedule so i can only really hit up one place...whats my best bet to find local (only available in New England/East Coast) beers? What should beers i look to pickup? I am staying at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel. Appreciate the help!
Fort Point Market is right next to Trillium and they have a good selection and prices seem pretty low for Boston.
Must visits are ... Deep Ellum ... Lone Star Taco next door. Row 34 with Trillium next being next door. Stoddard's with JM Curley across the street. Cambridge Brewing Company ... both Mead Hall and Lord Hobo are a close walk. All are near or somewhat near a form of public transportation. Don't take cabs ... get Uber, the UberX drivers are good and cheap in the Boston area.
