For those of you who've had this beer, have any of you said, "Well, some people ask for beer and a shot. I think I just did both at the same time." ? I looked it up, did the research, then ordered a bottle at a place my wife and I recently found (Delicious Heights in Bedminster, NJ), figuring there are some beers you should at least try once in your life. This one is continuously talked about and sought after on BA.

All I could say, after admiring it in my brandy snifter, was, "Holy crap!" [in a good way]

I sipped it with care, after the Edmund Fitzgerald Porter (also an awesome beer). I just couldn't wrap my mind around this one. To me it was dessert, not simply another beer.

Is this a fairly uniform reaction when you all tried this one?

I'd love to hear a few articulate stories/thoughts.

Yeah, It's a novelty beer. You have to try it once, but it doesn't justify the price tag or any hype it receives.

My fiance and I opened not 1, but 2 bottles one night as a nightcap (one for EACH of us). This was the first time experiencing this fine brew and what a mistake it was to think that we could drink them as our own beers. We should have split one. The beer is good but if you are a hophead, then this one is a little over the top, in that, it doesn't drink like a typical IPA but more like a barleywine.

I myself enjoy 120 with a year or less on it. I like what it is and how it tastes, without holding it in the IPA category and judging it against things it isn't trying to be.

That said, its brewed by Dogfish head so many people love it or hate it before even trying it.

That is my favorite beer of all time. Wouldn't want it everyday. But it is nothing short of magical when the mood hits.

It seems to be a polarizing beer, too. Personally, I really enjoy it. Certainly one to be sipped and savored. I try to snag a few when I see them. Normally $8.99 or $9.99 here per bottle. If you can sit on a couple for quite a few years, do it. I do enjoy it fresh but it's really good aged too. I'm waiting to hit the 5 year mark which is supposed to be great.

That's freaky- I said that to my wife after she had a sip of mine. Barleywine. Uncanny.

I like the beer, the fresher the better, IMO. I think it's worth the 9.99/bottle tag for a special occasion.

A lot of guys I know that have had it share that thinking. I believe its a very common sentiment that 120 is a BW with an IPA label

It was okay but overall a failed barleywine & failed IIPA. Now Kill and Destroy by Struise is the real deal 17 % ABV & 500 IBU & one hell of an unique experience.

One of my faves too. I remember when they were having problems getting the yeast to fully attenuate with batches, so there was a long period it wasn't available. While I was in Florida I found a case on the shelf of a small liquor store. It was a year old, selling for ten bucks a bottle. I bought the case and shipped it home. I think it ages really well.

Ghostface Killah is a novelty beer. 120 is an excellently crafted masterpiece.

I had it recently with 10 months on it, and was glad I tried it. It's maybe a once every couple years beer for me. Same story with WWS. Nice for an occasional indulgence.

I just had my first 120 this past Friday and I thought the same thing: a boilermaker with good beer. Kind of burned my lips a bit. Eased up as it got warmer. Looking forward to more!

For me, much better on tap at the DFH brewpub than bottled. I like it either way though it's hard to justify paying the $10.99 + tax price (pushing it to $12.00) in my area when there are better, cheaper beers available.

A 12oz bottle really should be shared though, so think of it like two servings.

This year, 2013, was amazing from tap. Other aged years were a novelty IMO, but those were aged.
