I just had a '12 and '13 show up a couple days ago. Never had it before. I plan on drinking way to much local beer on New Years Eve so I might just crack them open this weekend

    No!!!!!

Don't do it! It says right on the bottle to not drink it until after 9/2014. Sit on it awhile, you'll be glad you did.

I agree...tasting an Abyss thats been sitting for at least a year is best.

Abyss was good, but I am hoping aging it will bring out some better flavor.

The liquor store near me has about 2 cases of Abyss just sitting on the shelves..although it is $20/ea..

I remember only a few years ago Abyss shelf turded it up for months, even years around here.

Amen brother! I am still kicking myself for not swooping up a few more bottles when I had the chance. Prior to the Abyss, I cannot remember the last time I sat and actually savored a brew while analyzing it's complexity.

If you think it's terrible now, what makes you think time in the bottle will change your opinion that it goes from terrible to at least acceptable?

I had a 3 year aged Abyss a few years back and I still say it was, hands down, the single best beer I've ever had.

If you're a fan of licorice and molasses, then this is the beer for you. And boy am I fan.. Perfect body and mouthfeel, super complex, and nothing overwhelms. I was surprised the last time I had it how that cherry bark also came out in the flavor. Haven't opened this years vintage yet,,, can't wait

Good news! It didn't arrive til 12:00 am, and we got into some Surly, 50/50 Eclipse and BCBS Coconut! Never did crack the Abyss!

Im not a huge licorice fan so I like this beer with some age on it. 2-3 years and its fantastic.

Ok...I am going to induce a riot here. This Christmas was the 1st time I ever had the privilege of drinking an Abyss. So many of great taste think so much of it on here I was VERY excited. But I have to say...it was not as good as I expected. I think BCBS, KBS, Parabola are way better. In fact, of beers I can regularly and easily get, I would say I feel Stone Espresso RIS, Founders RIS, and Bells Expedition stout are better.
Now, I have another bottle so we will see AND I got mine from someone on "MeBeerCellar" , hope it wasn't a fake!

The barrel-aged components are pasteurized, but the tank aged part isn't, so there's still live yeast in the beer.

Is this still a standing offer? Would love to grab a second bottle so that I can try fresh and with some age.

It always seems to be gone before it even arrives around here anymore.
