So I have seen the thread asking what everyones most recent WOW beer was. But I was wondering, what was the first beer that really made you take a step back and think wow is this really what beer can taste like?

For me it was KBS a number of years ago. I had had some pretty good beer up until that point, but the minute it tried KBS I was floored.

So what beer did it for you?

Berkshire Octoberfest. Picked it up on a camping trip with my brother in late August 2009 as a joke because of the ugly label. Was a coors light drinker. As soon as we shared that bomber we both never looked back.

Hadn't really tasted any craft beers til a year and a half ago. Then I had a Duvel or two out at dinner. Changed my relationship with beer for good. Thank you Duvel!

Dark Lord Vanilla Bean at Firestone Walker's first Invitational... I think June 2011. I had a few good ones before but that was clearly the WOW beer for me and changed the way I looked at craft beer since. Next was Abraxas.

Stone Ruination. It was one of the first DIPAs I had and about 1/3 of the way in, I looked at my friend and said, "This is a really good fucking beer." I still stay that every time I have it.

A few years ago I was at Wings Etc for some High life and football. I decided to try an Alpha King because a guy from work was telling me how good it was and I really needed to try it. I figured they had it so why not....Craft ever since. I'm sure my wife would love to knock him out. I Would probably be drinking $25 30 packs, but now I'm lucky to buy a $12 4 or 6 pack.

This is mine also. I think if Ruination were released yearly in one batch like Hopslam people would go nuts over it.

Many years ago a military buddy bought me a Sam Adams Boston Lager. This was before the big boom in craft beer, mind you. I was amazed since all I had ever had prior to that was macro swill. It was a "wow" moment as it was this first beer I actually tasted although I had drank so-called beers before then.

Orval. I mean dogfish 60 was my first real craft, but Orval is the beer that really made me say WOW and made me start taking my drinking habit more seriously.

Mine was Pizza Port's Sharknado, and although it's not my all time favorite, it was one that I tried and said "wow, a high ABV beer that actually tastes like a sessionable beer!" If this ever makes it to 6 packs it'll be my go to session beer

First IPA: Dogfish head 60 minute ("wow! this smells like weed and tastes like heaven. I'm going to order another one")

Berkshire Coffeehouse Porter (see avatar) totally blew me away. It still is my "special occasion beer of choice".

My first wow beer had to be Sierra Nevada Celebration, beers were good up till then but that beer blew mind. I thought I was drinking a Christmas tree.
