I heard some talk of infection in these. What year?

December 2012 and December 2013 were both badly, unintentionally, infected.

There is an older thread on this exact topic with more detail in the Midwest forum.

Sure glad that it was unintentionally infected.
I have 2010 and 2011 if anybody is interested in a swap.

I used that word intentionally. If you read the older thread there were some comments related to a quasi-intentionally infected batch that was released as such, and some people enjoyed it. I was being clear that there were two releases which were not intended to be funky that were bottled (and I can't imagine anyone enjoying them). I was sure NOT glad that they were unintentionally infected.

Weird stuff. Thanks for the clarification.

I bought a couple bottles of 2013 last March. I haven't opened either bottle yet. So should I assume they're infected?

Based on most responses, I'm afraid you should assume that. I hope you are pleasantly surprised but I would not expect anything better than a drain pour at this point. Good luck and let us know if all is well!

Caution: open them in a sink. If they are infected, they gush worse than any other bottle I've seen!

The beer was perfect when fresh, why not drink it then?

I knew something was wrong before I even opened my bottle. They had a sticker on the bottle stating "this barrel aged Imperial stout is not meant to age."

Just haven't gotten around to it. Too many other beers to drink.

I didn't sample the 2012 fresh, but the 2013 was drain-pour nasty within a month of its release when I had it.

I seem to recall that they were offering refunds (gift cards) at some point, I just never got there to turn in my bottles
