Anyone else visited this place? Went there last summer just looking for a place to eat, only to find out this little hotel/ restaurant was some sort of craft beer mecca in the UP. Went back again two weeks ago and got Goose Island bourbon cherry, coffee bourbon, ola dubh 30 yr, plus a ton of beer I would normally have to spend massive amounts for shipping to WI. Going back again for 4th of July. Didn't post in the review section since wanted to know if other people have got a chance to experience a stay there, if not make the trip! Best part is you step out the door to a sand beach on Lake Superior, the view just adds to the taste of the beer.
Marc is a regular poster in the Great Lakes forum, and he has piqued my interest to go there some day. It's good to hear about your experience which just makes me want to go now before all of the goodies are consumed.
this trip I had: Bourbon County Coffee stout ola dubh 30 yr JW Lees 2010 Harvest Ale Calvados Jacobite Ale JW Lee Harvest Ale Lagavulin couple others but I deleted the list I was keeping on my phone by mistake, plus I'm getting really thirsty typing this and want to go back now
We went for the opening party at the beginning of April. We are going back next week. It is that good.
Mike and Marc are great guys, was shocked to learn they where so young and run the place so well, looking forward to another trip soon.
Post a review, they deserve it. Michael and MarCat have worked hard to transform The Fitz over the past 4 years or so. They had/have some great mentors in Michael's parents who really got The Fitz launched years ago. They are doing a great job carrying the tradition forward. I didn't think it was possible a few years ago, but they have improved the place immensely. I have had the pleasure of seeing these two grow from young (beardless) teenagers hanging around the restaurant into managing a top notch operation. Anyone considering a trip up there should definitely do it.
Sooooooo want to visit Marc there. I just need to convince the wife to make the drive with me. Or maybe a beercation with a local BA?
Headed up there first weekend of August as part of a U.P. vacation. Bringing a few friends (and wives) and we are all super stoked to break our Fitz cherry!!!
There is a lot for your wife to do up there. My wife is the reason I started going up there 14 years ago. I've been all over Michigan, and there is no better place than Eagle River/Great Sand Bay.
I spend most of my free time camping and hiking the UP, best place in the Midwest in my book. Best time is early spring or after the leaves fall off, I have spent 4 days hiking and never saw another person.
I am worshiping at the northernmost craft beer Mecca in the UP right now. The sun is shinning. The beer list is long. The beers are tasty. I am happy. Not exactly Hemingway above, but tatie how I am feeling right now - Hemingwayesque.
Just saw this thread...how the hell did I miss this? You guys are too kind...really appreciate the nice words, I will make sure Mike takes a look at this thread as well. People like you are the reason we do what we do, and love doing it! I'll have our Brickside Collaboration Trail Hand Saison on for you when you arrive! It's carbing right now, and is a big bubblegum citrus bomb...with another couple weeks and some carbonation, this is going to be a fun lil summer sipper. Again, thank you so much for the kind words, it means alot. Corey, you're making me blush man! You had some real nice friends, look forward to seeing you guys again.
Oh yah, we are doing a Bell's tap takeover on August 1st, it's a Thursday. Hopefully alot of the good stuff will be on for you when you get up... I'll make a thread for it as soon as my event gets approved. Cheers!
