Haven't tried it yet but Mexican Cake, although I tried BA Cake at a bottle share this weekend.

Also finally got to try Westbrook Gose, Abrasive, PseudoSue, Born Yesterday, Bad Boy, Huna, and a few Trillium beers.

this is a really good post because as I've progressed through beer trading- establishing regular trade partnerships, friendships, etc- I've come to understand what I originally considered whale-y is certainly more obtainable. Nonetheless, it's awesome seeing all these posts on beers that people have had the opportunity to enjoy. If I can make one suggestion to all those that think some beers can never be obtained, I will say that is absolutely true if you are on your own. One of the most fortunate things I've come across in beer is being part of a non hoarding, share-everything, going-in-on-trades-together, consistently-meeting tasting group. sure I can never say a bottle is 100% mine, but then again I don't want the bottle I want the beer inside, and having it with a group that respects what it takes to get it has been that much better. ok i'm done w the rant:

This was my first year in the Bruery Reserve society so I got to try a ton of things that I had wanted to, but I'll just mention the #1 that I had been dying to try.

1: The Bruery - Chocolate Rain
Out of the four primary Black Tuesday variants, this actually ended up being only my third favorite. I preferred base BT and Mocha Wednesday.

    2: The Lost Abbey - Veritas 015
Got to sample at Extreme Beer Fest. Was dying to try any of the legendary sours from Lost Abbey, was very excited to see this make surprise appearance at EBF. Heavenly, complex, and raw stone fruit sour.

    3: Westbrook - Mexican Cake
Always have been intrigued by spiced stouts and, like most of the rest I've tried, this didn't quite live up to expectations. Definitely tasted like chocolate cake though.

4: Jester King - Biere de Syrah
Wasn't hunting this beer in particular, just glad to finally try Jester King. The beer was surprisingly simple and easy-going.

    5: Westvleteren 12
Haven't opened it yet, but had a friend bring back a bottle from a trip to Amsterdam. Will save it for a special occasion.

Also got to check off a few more Cantillons, finally try Tree House, and of course drink loads and loads of excellent Bruery stuff. Moved to a new city late in 2014 and now have access to tons of Prairie, Crooked Stave, and Grimm, all of which have provided some great beer experiences this year.

I thought the same thing but when you try and correct someone's spelling or grammar on this site, you get accused of being the language police, even though incorrect spelling and grammar can completely change the meaning of what you are trying to say. About beer.

Yeah, I'm not trying to correct someone on your or you're but these are two words that completely change what I thought the meaning of the thread was. It blew my mind that some of the poster resent acquiring some of the beers they listed and then I went back and read the OP and realized that it's not about beers they didn't like. Oh well, glad I wasn't the only one.

Oh man.. I've been stocking up as of late, hard to limit to just 5... although not all of these would probably be considered "whales" and some have been consumed already... I don't really count IPAs as whales though so won't include like TH, Dinner, etc.

I think he meant "resentfully", as in, you managed to land a whale but you resent your own wasteful, compulsive hoarding & have grown to hate the beer.
