Tree House is amazing!!
For still being pretty new to the "game" this has been an amazing year. First off I indulged my self with a Sam Adams Utopias (thank you work for double time on Sundays). Then I had the fortune of a local bar getting Founders CBS during their KBS release party. Went in for the KBS obviously, asked the bartender about it and he replied "Well we have it but we have to get through this CBS stuff first". Neither the staff nor the regular patrons realized what they had so got to enjoy that for several days before it kicked.
Also scored bottles this year of:
All the Bourbon County variants except Prop
Pliny the Elder
And got to sample so many beers at Darkness Day during the bottle share. Abraxas, Huna, Black Gold, Zombie Dust, the generosity of the people camping out was amazing!
DDG b1 and b2
and a case of FO
and then I woke up
What a cracking beer the DB was on cask. Drinking that with Dann and Martha in 50's gear was my highlight of 2014
Sip O Sunshine
Twilight of the Idols
Treehouse Alter Ego
PAA Vanilla Noir
BC 15 Rare
oh...and the recent release of modern times sours
That's cask DB they have in their hands. Those lovely people. So sad Pretty Things is done. Great beer, great people.
And (like 40,000 other people) a Rare '15.

Oh a couple others I completely forgot about:

Non-infected GF Silva Stout
Highland Cold Mountain (okay, it's more a porpoise than a true whale but I love it nonetheless)
WW Angel of Darkness
Black Tuesday reserve

Eclipse Elijah Craig 12
Dieu du Ciel Peche Mortel
Tree House Double Shot
Tree House Green
Hill Farmstead Fear and Trembling

Meh, oh well, I guess i have never caught a whale. I can agree with what @SteveSexton203 is saying. I have had some damn good beers that I had some difficulty obtaining though!
1. See The Stars
2. See The Sunrise
3. Bourbon Barrel Aged Coconut MC
4. Farm To Face
5. Chocolate Rain
for me it would probably be
vanilla bean assassin
zenne y frontera
This is true in a way, but isn't that what a whale is. Something hard to obtain that you desire. I have a personal whale list that I would like to try and it is different for every BA. Yes, for a some (or a lot) of BAs, the top 250 is the whale list because getting Heady or Pliny in Minnesota is impossible unless trading or traveling. And yes, there are also certain "whale lists" that people follow: blue, white, ghost whale lists, but everyone has a personal whale list and I think that is the meaning of the thread.
BCBS Rare '15
De Garde Imperial Blu BU
De Garde Imperial Cherry Bu
Alesmith BA Speedway Stout '15
Duck Duck Gooze
Yes my OP was with regards to each person's individual whales, not necessary the top 250 or ultra rare stuff or trying to be any sort of show off "look at me" type post. It can be a local beer that has been elusive, maybe only comes out in limited supply at your brewery and you keep missing it each year, or a standard lineup beer from a nano-brewery far away. Or it could be the usual rare stuff that people stand in line for, chase trucks, visit a European country like most people seem to be mentioning. It can be what it is specific to you.
I saw someone earlier mentioned Pilsner Urquell in a can. That is one I'm still searching for and haven't seen anywhere.
Also another one that I finally got to try that had a lot of buzz over last few years was Narangansett. It lived up to the hype and was quite solid (for an AAL, it was one of the best I've had).
Thanks to a present from the girlfriend I got Pliny, Supplication from Russian River. Also, Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout and Goose BCBS and 120 Minute IPA.
Nogne O Dark Horizon
Drie Fonteinen Armand'Spirit (40% alc distilled from Gueze)
Zwanze (2008, 2013, 2015)
Black Butte ^3 and Sour Quad
Months ago: All Green Everything
BA Rasputin (Wheat and Rye variants)
Goose Island Night Stalker 2010
All the BCBSs
Bourbon Cake/ Cognac Cake
2015 has been a great beer year for me.
Bourbon County Rare
Atrial Rubicite and sharrey barrel aged Atrial Rubicite
Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier (Marzen)
Lindemans Faro and Cuvee Rene
Not the most rare of Whales but:
Goose Island BCBS (first time)
Pliny the Elder
today I got my hands on some of the Knee Deep lineup:
Citra Extra Pale Ale
Breaking Bud IPA
Lupulin River IIPA
They had Simtra TIPA but I had to pass this time since the bomber was $10.99, I'll grab it next time.
(not sure if these are considered whales normally, but right now in CT they sure as hell are)
That 2009 supplication is amaze balls
